:There was never any confirmation that it used it, but we did have a user or two add speculation that the self-damaging moves they learn are what they used to calm Dialga and Palkia. When I was battling with a Clefairy that used Memento via Metronome, the opponent was protected but Clefairy still fainted, and the description says it won't faint.
