April: "Hello! It's time for Gym Freaks, your source for the hottest news about hot Gym Leaders in Kalos. So... I'm now in front of the Laverre City Gym! ... Oooooh. Valerie has arrived! She's glorious! What a beauty! With a fairylike existence! She can wear such high heels because she used to be a model. If I were wearing heels that high, I wouldn't be able to get out of my house. Ah... She went inside the Gym... That's all for the on-site report. Good-bye for now, everyone."

Valerie in the anime

Valerie is the Laverre City Gym Leader, as well as a famous fashion designer. She operates her fashion retail store and hosts fashion shows inside the Laverre Gym.

She debuted in A Fashionable Battle!. After Ash and his friends arrived in Laverre City, Serena became excited about the prospect of meeting her. When a fashion show was about to start, Valerie became unsure of what to do while preparing for the fashion show. Blossom and Katherine brought over Serena and Bonnie, and Valerie recommended them to replace two participants who didn't show up for her fashion show. During the event, Valerie had a Gym battle, to showcase her designs, against Sawyer and easily defeated his Bagon with the help of her Spritzee's speed. This battle caused Ash to realize that Valerie was going to be tough to deal with.

In Fairy-Type Trickery!, Valerie got to battle Ash next. When Ash and his friends arrived in the Laverre Gym, they initially noticed that Valerie was absent. She then made a grand entrance with flower petals to welcome Ash to the Gym. Beginning their two-on-two match, Valerie called out Sylveon first. After Fletchinder defeated Valerie's Sylveon, Valerie sent out Spritzee next. Her strategy was revealed when she had Spritzee use Trick Room. This managed to defeat Fletchinder, as Fletchinder took too long with the multiple Flame Charges during the stage Trick Room was active. Valerie dealt with Hawlucha next. By treating it as a wrestling ring, Hawlucha withheld Spritzee's attacks and then X-Scissored the Trick Room, shattering it. Spritzee was defeated by Hawlucha, thus defeating Valerie. The Furisode Girls commented that Valerie hadn't lost to anybody in a while. She then gave Ash the Fairy Badge as proof for defeating her. She reappeared in a flashback in the next episode.

She appeared in a fantasy in A League of His Own!, when Ash was talking to Everett about the Gym Leaders that he had defeated in Kalos, in order for him to be able to compete in the Lumiose Conference.

In A Towering Takeover!, Valerie was seen in her Gym, watching Lysandre's broadcast from Lumiose City along with her Pokémon. In Rocking Kalos Defenses! and Forming a More Perfect Union!, Valerie and Spritzee were among those who helped to destroy the Giant Rock.

She reappeared in a flashback in Till We Compete Again!.

Character

Valerie is always poised and polite. Behind this, however, Valerie is bold and confident in how she conducts herself on the battlefield. Her Fairy Pokémon are trained with beauty and power, or what she calls "hidden fangs", in mind. Valerie is incredibly empathetic and revealed that she wishes to be a Pokémon. As a result, she has developed the unique ability to speak to some Pokémon, which allows her to use them to their full abilities in battle such as her Sylveon's ribbons.

She is also creative and has an eye for detail. Valerie believes that only nature represents true beauty, and often incorporates floral and Pokémon motifs in her fashion designs. Her designs are best showcased in battle, where their intricate details and the free-flowing movement of the materials come to life.

It defeated his Fletchinder despite Fletchinder's super-effective attacks, but lost to Hawlucha despite having a type advantage. It reappeared in a flashback in Rivals: Today and Tomorrow!.

In A Towering Takeover!, it was seen watching Lysandre's broadcast from Lumiose City along with Valerie. In Rocking Kalos Defenses! and Forming a More Perfect Union!, it helped destroy the Giant Rock.

Valerie in Pokémon Adventures

Valerie debuted in Quilladin Stands. She, alongside Grant and Olympia, went to visit Korrina, who was in a Laverre City hospital recuperating from injuries she sustained in a battle with Team Flare. They soon left to have a meeting with the other Kalos Gym Leaders to decide on how to deal with Team Flare. In Pyroar Breathes, Y, Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna joined the Gym Leaders and traveled to Geosenge Town to confront Team Flare. Shortly after they arrived, the group witnessed the ultimate weapon emerging from underground like a flower bud. To prevent the weapon from blooming, the Gym Leaders and Y used their bodies to keep the petals in place by force, but were met with interference by Bryony.

The ultimate weapon eventually fired anyway, but the combined efforts of the Gym Leaders and their allies successfully weakened the weapon enough to make it unable to take any innocent lives. Using her newly-obtained Xerneas, Xerxer, Y tried to destroy the ultimate weapon, but was interrupted by Malva and her Yveltal. Due to Xerneas and Yveltal being evenly matched, Xerosic announced that Lysandre ordered a ceasefire. Xerxer confirmed this and retreated, taking Y and the others with it.

In Pinsir Glares, Ramos revealed that Team Flare blamed the destruction caused by the ultimate weapon on the Gym Leaders and the Vaniville children. X and his friends were advised to keep out of the public's eye while the Gym Leaders helped rebuild the damaged areas. In Xerneas Gives, Valerie, Grant, Ramos, Olympia, and Wulfric helped stop Team Flare's attempt to reactivate the ultimate weapon by defeating a group of Grunts that were stationed around Cyllage City. After Team Flare was fully defeated, Valerie and her allies met with X and his friends at Lumiose City to congratulate them on their victory.

Pokémon

This listing is of Valerie's Pokémon in the Pokémon Adventures manga.

Mr. Mime
Mr. Mime is Valerie's only known Pokémon. It accompanied Valerie to visit an injured Korrina at a Laverre City hospital. Later, it was used at Geosenge Town to keep the ultimate weapon from being activated. By creating blocks of solid air, it helped keep the other Gym Leaders' Pokémon floating in the air. Bryony saw through this trick and used her Bisharp to cut through the blocks, sending Mr. Mime and the other Pokémon plummeting to the ground. When the ultimate weapon was fired, it created a barrier to protect the Gym Leaders and Y from its effect.

None of Mr. Mime's moves are known.
