Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Kaoz!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The P, of course, is accessed easily by holding Shift and pressing the P key, while the é can be accessed using Alt + 130 or Alt + 0233 on a Windows computer, and Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a captial B (which is, again, accessed by holding Shift and pressing the B key). The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem, can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here!PokeManiac102 22:32, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

About pendra and the centaur

What it meant was that it was half centipede/millipede and half horse. As you can see, it's quite obvious as the limbs it uses to move makes it quadrupedal; the other limbs are used as weapons. The limbs are also very similar to equine legs. - 050294 01:51, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

If it was as obvious as you say, I wouldn't have edited it out. For the matter, I still can't see those legs as equine legs. Ponyta and Shimama are good references of realistic and stylized equine legs, respectively. It being quadrupedal is not necessarily related to centaurs, for all we know it might be just because it's easier to animate. I'm positive the day a centaur Pokémon is made, the design influence will be easy to identify.--Kaoz 02:09, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Let me rephrase this: Its quadrupedal appearance gives it the look of a centaur, not necessarily equine limbs. While you say it might be easier to animate, that is simply not true. If they can animate all of Tentacruel's, and they have I've seen it, tentacles then this is not an issue. Why make all the other arms of it weapons instead of legs? Therefore it has the possibility of being based on it. Not all origins on Bulbapedia are accurate, they are simply interpretations. Some people, like me, see it as centaur-like. Therefore, it can be added to the page. - 050294 02:19, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I just ran a search through the Internet and various forums to check that you weren't alone in your perception. As it turned out, only two sources arose, one being from a livejournal account, the other from a deviantart journal, neither of the two having any mention in followup comments. Therefore, your point of "some people" is feeble at best. While origins are interpretations, some just don't make the cut, otherwise Arceus's page would mention it resembling a llama (which happens to be a derisive name based on a widespread perception of its resemblance to one). A relevant bit from Pendra's White dex entry refers to what you'd call its upper body -were it a centaur- as a neck, leaving Pendra with a really, really low chance of even having taken visual cues from a centaur.--Kaoz 03:24, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

The arrangement of color of the body might be based on flag of the United States.

Procambarus clarkii is named a アメリカザリガニ(american crayfish) in Japan. There are a flag and a common feature of "Flag of the United States". . that need not erase reference of guess Sawamular101 05:38, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Please let me hear your opinion. Why is the deletion repeated without discussing it?Sawamular101 11:48, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

A color scheme doesn't necessarily associate to a national flag. In fact, the red, white & blue palette is one of the more commonly seen patterns, as seen, for example, in the flags of France, Ukraine, Chile, and Paraguay. Just because there's a crayfish named "american" and Crawdaunt is based on a non-descript crayfish it doesn't mean Crawdaunt is related to that particular species, you're following an association fallacy where:
If A belongs to B, and A belongs to C, therefore B equals C
When making guesses about questionable connections, you should discuss them in the talk page first.--Kaoz 17:55, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
