Fanguru (Japanese: グンバイン Gunbain) is an Oranguru that Henry Sword owns in Pokémon Adventures and his fourth Pokémon overall.

History

Fanguru first appeared in Thump!! The Gazing Sage, where it chased Sonia down in a rage after she had stepped on its fan. Although Henry tried to have Lancelot help her out, Oranguru used its fan to control him. Henry and Raihan deduced that it uses the fan to control Pokémon and that the Oranguru can only control one Pokémon at a time. The two then decided to take the fan so that it cannot control their Pokémon anymore and engage it in battle. After Sonia told them why Oranguru was angry, Henry changed plans and had Raihan and all of their Pokémon hold Oranguru's fan down so that Henry could repair it, as the fan's damaged state was the reason why Oranguru could only control one Pokémon at a time. Out of gratitude, Oranguru then decides to join Henry's team. He complies, catching the Sage Pokémon and giving it the nickname Fanguru.

Later on in the Sword & Shield arc, Fanguru was used as Henry's second Pokémon in his Gym battle against Allister and the latter's second Pokémon, Cursola. After some trouble dealing with the stiffening effects of Cursola's ectoplasm, Fanguru defeated the Coral Pokémon with Foul Play. Allister then summons and Gigantamaxes his final Pokémon, Gengar, and has it use G-Max Terror on Fanguru, rendering it unable to switch out. Henry responds by Dynamaxing Fanguru and having Fanguru dodge a Max Ooze. After hearing his deceased father give him some words of advice, Henry has Fanguru block another Max Ooze with Max Guard before Gengar turns back to normal. This allows Fanguru to finish things off with a Max Darkness attack and give its Trainer the victory.

Personality and characteristics

Like other members of its species, Fanguru can control Pokémon with a wave from its fan. Fanguru is shown to be very protective of that fan, angrily chasing anyone who damages it. However, this same protectiveness causes it to show gratitude to anyone to fixes the fan, as shown when Fanguru allowed Henry to catch it after he fixed it. Fanguru is also shown to be very powerful, taking Cursola and Gengar down in one hit.
