Generation VII

Generation VII has 18 known Legendary Pokémon, more than any other generation, bringing the total to 56 Legendary Pokémon. Four of these Pokémon are all part of Cosmog's evolutionary chain, and two are part of Type: Null's evolutionary chain, which is a phenomena of Legendary Pokémon unique to Generation VII.

Type: Null and Silvally

Type: Null and Silvally are Normal-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. Type: Null evolves into Silvally.

Gladion has a Type: Null which evolves into a Silvally. After entering the Hall of Fame, Gladion gives you a Type: Null at the Aether Paradise.

Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details.

Type: Null was created by Faba of the Aether Foundation to be an "Anti-UB Fighting life-form". Codenamed "Beast Killer", Type: Null was given cells taken from all known Pokémon types with the intention of giving it the ability to shift between types by holding a corresponding memory, an ability originally inspired by the myths about Arceus found in Canalave Library. This ability led the Aether Foundation to give it the name Type: Full (Japanese: タイプ:フル Type: Full). Three known models of Type: Full were created, but all three rejected the RKS System and went berserk. After being subdued, the three Type: Full were given limiter helmets to lessen the effects of the RKS System's rejection and were put into permanent cryogenic stasis, and the "Beast Killer" project was deemed a failure. Afterward, they were deemed failures and their name changed to Type: Null. At some point before the events of Sun and Moon, Gladion was able to free one of the Type: Null, which he adopted as his own in the hopes of finding a way to undo the effects of the limiter helmet and allow it to use the RKS System.

  Spoilers end here.

Guardian deities

Main article: Guardian deities

The guardian deities are Legendary Pokémon in the Alola region who protect the islands where they live. Each of the four main islands in Alola has a guardian deity: Tapu Koko on Melemele Island, Tapu Lele on Akala Island, Tapu Bulu on Ula'ula Island, and Tapu Fini on Poni Island. The island kahunas are each chosen by their island's guardian deity.

The guardian deities are known to take part in battles to decide who is the strongest of them all, and this inspired humans to create the Battle Royal format. They share the signature move Nature's Madness and its corresponding Z-Move Guardian of Alola.

Cosmog line

Main article: Cosmic duo

Cosmog is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Cosmog has a major role in the plot as a Pokémon being studied by the Aether Foundation. Lillie, the daughter of Aether Foundation's president, Lusamine, spirits Cosmog away and nicknames it Nebby, hiding it in her bag as she tries to learn more about it by visiting the guardian deities. Over the course of the game, Cosmog evolves into Cosmoem, another Legendary Pokémon, and eventually the version mascot of the game: the Psychic/Steel-type Solgaleo in Pokémon Sun and the Psychic/Ghost-type Lunala in Pokémon Moon. Another Cosmog can be obtained by the player in the post-game.

Ultra Beasts

The Ultra Beasts are a group of extradimensional Pokémon originating from Ultra Space. They possess power that transcends humans' understanding of the world.

Ultra Beasts infrequently appear from Ultra Wormholes in Alola. These appearances are apparently as unexpected for the Ultra Beasts as for Alolans, which tends to make them combative. They are especially drawn to people who have passed through an Ultra Wormhole, due to the residual wormhole energy on them, apparently expecting to find a wormhole they can use to return home.

There are currently seven known Ultra Beasts:

All seven Ultra Beasts share the Ability Beast Boost. While they are wild, this manifests as an aura at the start of battles that boosts one of their stats, similar to Totem Pokémon. This aura actually comes from the energy they were bathed in when they passed through an Ultra Wormhole; Wicke theorizes that they store this energy in their bodies.

Most Poké Balls have difficulty recognizing Ultra Beasts as Pokémon due to their extraterrestrial origins, impairing their ability to effectively catch them. Only the Master Ball and Beast Balls escape this impairment.

Necrozma

Necrozma

Necrozma is a mysterious Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon that resembles the Ultra Beasts. It is believed to have come from an alternate dimension long ago.
