Revert deprecation
Firefox now supports Ruby text, meaning that all major browsers can render it. There is no reason to deprecate this template anymore as it is a better implementation of furigana than the tooltip template, which has its own set of issues even if we exclude its usage as a workaround for displaying furigana. Revert deprecation (2)
So I had heard of this Ruby template for over a week now, but I just tried it for the first time just now (for pages such as Pokémon Card 151 and Cherry Blossom Afro Pikachu) and oh my god this template is so clean and easy to use. It even renders well on mobile!
Apparently it was deprecated like a decade ago because at the time support for Ruby was poor, but now pretty much every browser supports it, so (just as users suggested seven years ago lmao) i think we should un-deprecate this template. Hell, i'd say we take it one step further and put it in the Manual of Style; personally i think Ruby should always be used any time furigana is needed. Anzasquiddles (talk) 01:25, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- I strongly support this. No one deserves to be unable to read Japanese kanji only because they don't know how to read that (e.g. if they can only read kana). With that, usage of
