Someone should add a way to include the levels that the Pokémon can appear at. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs 20:53, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

The trouble is that the levels are all over the place for Pokémon that appear in lots of areas. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Plus the areas they're in often have the levels listed. Check out Route 209. TTEchidna 00:51, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Platinum

I think that we should add a Platinum slot after the Diamond and Pearl slot and before the pal park slot. --User: 23-03-33 17:10, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Columns

I think there needs to be an extra column under the title "method". Then you can put things like dongle, tall grass etc. At least then you don't have to put dongle in the rarity column. TESHIGIGAS 17:25, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

It would clean up the surf/fish/etc out of the location column as well, and be more like the route info. — THE TROM — 23:35, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Curse these protected templates! Yet another edit request

Coding commented out due to deprecated links.

Could an admin perhaps update this template to my roundycornered variant above please. You'll also need to changewith sections of my second example there so that the text backgrounds are white. I'd do it myself but we have so cleverly protected all commonuse templates... :( Any confusion please hit up my talk page. Thanks! — THE TROM — 22:46, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I think it will look better if the bottom left corner of the Generation IV cell and the bottom right corner of the Pal Park location cell were also rounded to 0.5em. — Laoris (Blah) 22:51, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Sure thing. I just copied the code from Template:Dex. I'll adjust it, then make another edit request at Template talk:Dex, for consistency. — THE TROM — 22:54, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Unfortunately I think it requires edits to all four of the sub-templates. — Laoris (Blah) 22:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
I know... and they're all protected. TTE's just come online so maybe he'll sort it. Links for subs are in my original post, btw. — THE TROM — 23:19, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm actually planning on roundycornering this one soon. Check out my idea for it: User:TTEchidna/Available. TTEchidna 23:23, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Ooh, nice! Feel free to ignore all the above then. — THE TROM — 23:25, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Move Exclusives...

We should fix the parentheses here:

style="background:#{{{{{type2|{???}}}} color light}}; -moz-border-radius-topleft: 10px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft: 10px;" rowspan="2" 000 ! style="background:#{{#switch: {gen2ex}|rby|silver=FFFFFF|gold color}}" {{color|{{#switch: {gen2ex}|rby|silver=gold color|000}}|Gold}} ! style="background:#{{#switch: {gen2ex}|rby|gold=FFFFFF|silver color}}" {{color|{{#switch: {gen2ex}|rby|gold=silver color|000}}|Silver}} style="background:#FFFFFF;" {None} style="background:#FFFFFF; -moz-border-radius-topright: 10px;" {Trade} {{#switch: {gen2ex}|silver=(silver color)|gold=(gold color)}}
AKA REMOVE. ht14 18:17, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I meant the parentheses...please...! ht14 11:02, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
To clarify, is what you've posted the correct coding? — THE TROM — 11:04, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Never mind, figured it out. Thanks for the catch. — THE TROM — 11:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Sinnoh Pokemon In Pal Park

It is possible to use cheat codes to make Sinnoh Pokémon appear in Pal Park; so, shouldn't Sinnoh Pokémon have there Pal Park locations listed? --Sivart345 18:39, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I second that. After all, we do have the number of steps it takes to hatch Pokémon that are legally impossible to hatch from eggs, so I don't see why not with this. Missingno. Master wants YOU! Join the Order of the Glitch! (my talk page) 18:43, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Good point. I'll even volunteer to get the Pokémon in Pal Park. --Sivart345 18:22, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Though they should not be listed on the Pal Park page under the sections; they should be in their own section if they appear at all. And not be linked on the main pages. TTEchidna 22:33, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Huh? I didn't quite get that? I'm talking about on the Pokémon's page in the location template, that's where I think it should be shown. --Sivart345 17:45, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

HGSS

Can someone change it so there is a hgss after dp?- unsigned comment from Riolufan09 (talkcontribs)

I don't think so, not yet (: YukitoOoO 15:06, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Pokéwalker

HGSS's communication with Pokéwalker and Munchlax's availability there are interesting issues. Should we do like Pal Park and have a Pokéwalker thing under HGSS, or put the HGSS location as Pokéwalker if it's only found there? TTEchidna 20:14, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

That really would depend on the amount of Pokéwalker Pokémon. If there are a heap of different Pokémon available we really should list them. However, if it's just a couple of Pokémon then we can just put it in the HGSS row, perhaps with the actual location in brackets. —darklordtrom 07:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
And of course then we gotta decide if PokéWalker availability counts more than breeder availability... (Munchlax, for example, since we know Snorlax is gonna be available in HGSS). I mean we do have a little hierarchy going right now... Catch > Breed > Trade > Pal Park... where would PokéWalker fit there, as equal to trading or Pal Park? Or elsewhere? Possible bug - Platinum

Hi, just noticed that on Bulbasaur's page, Platinum appears coloured in whereas Diamond and Pearl don't, despite that Bulbasaur has the same availability in all three games. I looked at the source and noticed that Platinum was listed in exactly the same way as Diamond and Pearl, but appeared differently, so this seems to be a bug with the template. (I can't pretend to even slightly understand the wiki markup behind this template, so can't recommend a solution). Kidburla 13:00, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

I noticed this with other Pokémon too. Bumping. Dragoness 09:44, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
This should be fixed now. There was also a "bug" with some Crystal entries; these both stemmed from cross-generational importing like the Time Capsule and Pal Park. Yellow and Emerald should be fine. —darklordtrom 10:56, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Pal Park listing

Thinking about how the Pokéwalker should appear has got me thinking about Pal Park in general. I think it is a bit strange that Pal Park appears as a separate row on the template, as it isn't a separate game. Instead of this, I figure we list it on the individual row listings, as e.g. "Pal Park (Field)" rather than just putting "Pal Park" on the game row and then putting "Field" on a separate Pal Park row, which we have currently. If that makes any sense! Kidburla 13:05, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Hoenn Sound

Could we possibly change the Hoenn Sound color to Ruby color light and Sapphire color light as the ones that we have currently are sort of actually hard to tell that they are hinting to Ruby and Sapphire and I think they aren't the greatest colors in general because they are so dark. Thanks. –MasterKenobi 22:54, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

I used hoenn color and sinnoh color. —darklordtrom 06:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Rarity

It's always bothered me. This is very subjective. Not only that, but it varies from location to location. I think that it could be kept to distinguish "Only one", "Wild", "Roaming", "Fossil" and "Gift" from each other, but it should not include thing like "Rare" and "Common". --SnorlaxMonster 08:05, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it's something that's meant to be the lowest common denominator or the most frequent rarity. But as I put somewhere in one of my early days editing here, what defines Rare and Common? —darklordtrom 08:18, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Pokemon Blue (J)

This template, along with Template:Catch, needs to be put in line with the other ones like the sprite templates and should specify "Blue" as the Japanese Green, and have separate entries for for the Japanese Blue version availabilities. Would this be difficult to do? I was thinking for Gen I:

<!--GEN I--> {| align="center" width="100%" style="{{#ifexpr: {1} > 1|display:none;}} 10px background: #{{{unknown} color}}; border-collapse: collapse;" |- | width="80px" align="center" style="5px line-height:8pt; background:#kanto color light;" | <small>000</small> | |- | colspan="2" style="10px 10px background:#kanto color light;" | {| align="center" width="100%" style="10px background: #FFFFFF; border: 2px solid #kanto color light;" |- ! width="70px" style="16px background:#{{#switch: {}|none|blue=FFFFFF|red color}}; border: 2px solid #red color; line-height:12pt;" | {{color|{{#switch: {}|none|blue=red color dark|000}}|Red}} ! width="70px" style="16px background:#{{#switch: {}|none|red=FFFFFF|blue color}}; border: 2px solid #blue color; line-height:12pt;" | {{color|{{#switch: {}|none|red=blue color dark|000}}|Blue}} | {| align="center" width="100%" style="12px background: #{{{unknown} color light}};" | align="center" width="70px" | <small>{None}</small> | style="10px background:#FFFFFF;" | {Trade}{{#switch: {}|red= red color dark|blue= blue color dark}} |} |- ! colspan="2" width="140px" style="16px background:#{{#ifeq: {Trade}|Trade|FFFFFF|blue color}}; border: 2px solid #blue color; line-height:12pt;" | [[Pokémon Blue Version (Japanese)|{{color|{{#ifeq: {Trade}|Trade|blue color dark|000}}|Blue (J)}}]] | {| align="center" width="100%" style="12px background: #{{{unknown} color light}};" | align="center" width="70px" | <small>{None}</small> | style="10px background:#FFFFFF;" | {Trade} |} |- ! colspan="2" width="140px" style="16px background:#{{#ifeq: {Trade}|Trade|FFFFFF|yellow color}}; border: 2px solid #yellow color; line-height:12pt;" | [[Pokémon Yellow Version|{{color|{{#ifeq: {Trade}|Trade|yellow color dark|000}}|Yellow}}]] | {| align="center" width="100%" style="12px background: #{{{unknown} color light}};" | align="center" width="70px" | <small>{None}</small> | style="10px background:#FFFFFF;" | {Trade} |} |}

Which would look like:

Generation I
Red Blue
None Trade
Blue (Japan)
None Trade
Yellow
None Trade

The color can be worked on later, it isn't a huge issue. It would use the arguements "jbarea" and "jbrarity". Is this too ambitious? What do you guys think? - MK (t/c) 06:36, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

I think this is very important to fix. Right now this template is inconsistent with such pages as Version-exclusive Pokémon, leading to inconsistent data for e.g. Magmar (where the data for Blue and for Green differ). The biggest design challenge, I think, is keeping the template clear to folks who want to know about the US blue version -- your method seems to handle this smoothly. --Eskay 19:54, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll put it on this template, as long as you go and fix all 151 pages which will say that it is unavailable in Blue (Japanese) as soon as possible. --SnorlaxMonster 03:16, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I can make the 139 edits, but I don't have a source for the actual location details for Blue where they differ from Green, such as in the matter of Scyther/Pinsir/Electabuzz/Magmar. --Eskay 05:38, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Version-exclusive Pokémon#Generation I should have all the correct information. --ZestyCactus 05:43, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Don't forget about this guys! - MK (t/c) 16:22, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Looks like we did. Can we do this ASAP? XVuvuzela2010X 19:22, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Black & White : Dream World

Maybe we should add informations about Black & White's Dream World, like this :

This Pokémon was unavailable prior to Generation I.

Generation V
Black White

Dream World
None Transfer from Black & White games

I used the "dw" prefix (ex:"dwarea", "dwrarity").

Wolfy Harfleur 76700 10:56, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

But the Dream World has no defined wild Pokémon; Game Freak can add and remove Pokémon at their will. Unless there are designated areas like Pal Park, I see no point in it. --SnorlaxMonster 11:15, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
I disagree, we list pokemon that can be acquired through events that can not be acquired through them anymore so I don't see your point? Also I would see Dreamworld being in pink, not white, and listing off just where in the Dream World you can get the pokemon, Pleasant Forest, Windswept Sky, Sparkling Sea, and any future additional places. Then if a pokemon is no longer available in a certain location the little asterisk can be added saying so? felinoel 04:49, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
I have since changed my view on this subject, because I was mistaken. Since the areas have defined Pokémon, I would support adding another section for Dream World Pokémon, like the Pokéwalker. --SnorlaxMonster 06:52, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
I was going to do it myself but the page appears to be locked... felinoel 08:05, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Can we give this another go? Thought without the "Transfer from" shindig? The parameter should be optional, if possible, because "Transfer from BW" doesn't make any sense. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 17:38, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Added. Parameter is "dwarea". It works exactly the same as the Pokéwalker one. And I agree completely with Luna. It should only be used for wild Pokémon, so nothing should have "Transfer from BW" or similar. Either it can be obtained from the DW, or it can't. That's what the availability thing is for. Werdnae (talk) 09:03, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Template isn't working for Pokemon from previous generations

When I attempt to add the BW availability to Pokémon from previous generations, it doesn't seem to work. Could someone fix this? - 050294 07:31, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Can you elaborate on what seems to be wrong? —darklordtrom 07:41, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
When I attempt to add the Black and White area availability, it just doesn't show up on Pokémon from previous generations. At all. Here's an example of it not working with Ninetales's availability.
This Pokémon was unavailable prior to Generation I.

Default message for Black and White.

Since there are so many Pokémon missing from the main part of Black and White. I believe the default message for bwarea should be "PokéShifter or Dream World" to cut down on the amount of pages needed to edit. - Chosen of Mana 15:11, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I agree, but only for Pokémon prior to Generation IV. For others (thus, version exclusives), it should be just "Dream World". --SnorlaxMonster 13:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Saphire

How's about making the text for Saphire white rather then black on navy blue? It's hardly legible. Malake256 18:43, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Colosseum and XD

If only just for the sake of curiosity... If Colosseum and XD aren't considered part of the core series, why are they in here rather than the side game data? -- EnosShayremtalk 02:27, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

They're here since you can capture Pokémon in them and also transfer it over to the core series unlike any other side game. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 02:31, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Aha, that makes sense. Cool. -- EnosShayremtalk 03:27, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

MD Gates to Infinity

Not sure where to put this, exactly (there doesn't seem to be an central side game availability template), but I have never seen any data on Gates to Infinity locations for any pokemon on this site. Is the data missing?

As a bit of an aside, why is there no side-game availability template? Xolroc (talk) 14:51, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

You mean something like this? (For both questions.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 14:58, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that's what I was referring to. There's a Template:Availability page, but no Template:SideGameAvail or anything of the sort; the colors and other data appear to be entered manually on each page that has an availability-in-side-games section. And, even if there is a MDGTI section on that one, it seems to be missing from most of the pokemon pages (for example).Xolroc (talk) 15:00, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
There's no need for another template, the current one works fine. And if a Pokémon page doesn't have GTI, the Pokémon probably isn't in the game. glikglak 15:46, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
Hm. You're right on that last point. I could have sworn Bulbasaur was available as a starter but Serebii says otherwise, so I guess I was wrong. Sorry to start a whole discussion on something pointless then! Xolroc (talk) 20:41, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Usability

As an even further aside to my previous post, I feel like this template could probably use a bit of usability improvement (though implementation may be difficult): Instead of Availability/Entry2|v=Red|v2=Blue, which always follows Availability/Gen|gen=I, the whole thing with Red, Blue, Blue(J), and Yellow could be rolled up into a single Availability/GenI subtemplate. This would also reduce the size of each page that contains the template, but not by much.

I'm not sure whether this would actually be a good idea, though. I'm not sure how easily it could be implemented and how worthwhile it is.

Xolroc (talk) 14:59, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

The current form of this template was implemented for flexibility and a certain simplicity (even if this simultaneously means it can also be a bit complicated in certain ways). The way this template is currently, we don't have to create new templates when new games come out that don't fit in the old templates—instead, all we have to do is use this one differently.
Besides which, not all Gen I games call for "Entry2", and adding some complicated logic to switch between the right formats for different cases in Gen I is completely against what was intended with the current implementation (internal simplicity).
In short, this already strikes a desired balance of overall simplicity. (Not perfect; balanced.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 15:52, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
Return to "Availability" page.
