Crystal Onix

Would anyone object to my adding a note about the Crystal Onix that appeared in the anime and its possible influence on Steelix? Drake Clawfang 20:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

By the time that episode aired, Steelix was likely already developed. Heck, I think it was known of. I know that I knew about it since I was crushed when I traded away my Onix for the 1999 TRU event Mew. TTEchidnaGSDS! 23:40, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps, but the two share a variety of similarities, and one likely had some impact on the design of the other. Drake Clawfang 00:34, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Second Longest Since Generation II

In the trivia section, it says that Steelix has been the second longest pokemon since its introduction in Generation II, but in Generation II it was THE longest. Shouldn't a note be made that it didn't become second longest until Generation III, when Wailord first showed up? - Buddy Christ

Exactly, if you want to edit, go for it. If you do anything wrong, I or somebody else will fix it for you, this is after all a public encyclopedia. TheBlazikenMaster 17:58, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Type

Is Steelix the only, or one of only few, who lose a type when they evolve? And if so, coould this go in Trivia? LEVEL X Talk to me! 11:24, 14 June 2009 (UTC) It changes from Rock to Steel. Of course a Pokemon is going to change types upon evolution. There is no need to mention it. Besides, it's quite obvious when looking at Onix compared to Steelix. So it's redundant. -Sketch 11:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

It does not lose a type, its Rock type changes to Steel. It's not notable, this happens with other Pokémon (such as Tyranitar's Ground -> Dark). Bellossom, on the contrary, does lose a type, and that is already mentioned in its trivia section. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 11:31, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Start Moves

I am a little confused on how Steelix has 7 start moves while Onix starts with 4. How can someone get a Steelix that knows Fire Fang, Ice Fang, and Thunder Fang if one has to first trade an Onix holding Metal Coat for it to become Steelix and even if it is a lv. 1 Onix it would already know its 4 Starting moves. Does Steelix learn Fire Fang, Ice Fang, and Thunder Fang when it is traded as an Onix and evolves? Could someone please explain this to me. Thank you. --PikaPower! 02:15, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

That's just what the guides say. Also, one could get those moves were they to use a move relearner. That answer your question? Poisson14 02:29, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I guess so. Thanks. --PikaPower! 18:09, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Artwork

The artwork for Steelix shown in the article isn't from Gold and Silver, it is from their remakes. Here is the original: [1] Here is the HGSS one: [2] Someone change that if they can, I tried three times, but I couldn't. - unsigned comment from Pokeman1000 (talkcontribs)

How's this? Bluesun 21:42, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Back sprite issue

I'm noticing this with almost every page with this computor I'm using. All of the 4th gen Back sprites for every page I look at don't display at all, but everything else shows up just fine. I'm not seeing this with just Steelix, as I'm seeing it with alot of other Pokemon as well. It's not something with my computor either, because when I click on where the 4th Gen back sprites are supposed to be, I get a message saying I don't have permission to view them, but I can also simply view them from the archives as well. Is this is a glitch with the site itself then? Shiramu Kuromu 16:56, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

We're in the middle of moving them to a better naming system. This means that they will be broken for a short time. Werdnae (talk) 02:41, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Wild Steelix

Just wondering, do the wild Steelix on Iron Island and Sinnoh's victory road mean that steelix is the only pokemon that both evolves by trade and can be found in the wild? Or have I forgotten one? Hypershock (talk) 04:48, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Kingdra, Huntail, Gorebyss, Slowking, Politoed, and probably some others can be found in the wild in BW. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 04:51, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I didn't know. I don't have BW yet. Are there any pokemon like this found in the wild in gen 1-4?Hypershock (talk) 05:35, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
You can also catch a wild Gengar in the Old Chateau in DPPt, provided you're playing on a DS Lite with a Gen III game in the GBA slot. GamerGeek 07:17, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Steelix's weakness

Okay, I know Steel types are weak against fire types, but wouldn’t Steelix be the exception? The reason why I am asking this is because Steelix tend to live further underground than Onix, in fact they tend to be found at the earth’s core which is made up of magma. At the earths core they eat molten rocks and metals to harden their bodies to the point where its harder than a diamond. My point is if Steelix can eat molten rocks and metals and tunnel within the earths core, why is it weak against fire types?Pyrotech12 (talk) 05:42, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Because its primary type is Steel. That's literally the only reason. You can't over-analyze it too much. Just look at the Sandshrew mini-game in Stadium. Sandshrew play on a water spout and enjoy it, despite being weak to Water. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 05:53, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Levitating sprite?

In my Pokémon Pearl version, the sprite for a male Steelix, possibly female as well, is not touching its shadow, giving the impression of levitation. Is this true for all Sinnoh games or is mine glitching somehow? And if it happens in all games, is it worth mentioning in the trivia section? AGGRON989 12:54, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Trivia: Both Steelix and Gengar tied with the distinction of being the first trade induced evolution (with or without item) to be met wild

Both Steelix and Gengar tied with the distinction of being the first trade induced evolution (with or without item) to be met wild, which occurred in Generation IV.

While Gengar comes first in the National Dex, it does require a third generation cart dongle, whereas Steelix can be encounterable without any such gimmicks.

After Gen IV, some other Trade-induced evolutions may be encounter-able in the wild (depending on the game), Such as Politoed, Huntail etc.

Theslayer (talk) 15:38, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

We generally go by the rule that something has to be unique (the only one) to be worth noting in Trivia. Since this is two separate Pokémon, it doesn't meet that rule. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 16:32, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Sure, I understand, thanks! :) theSLAYER 06:53, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
