Talk:Secret Base Trainer (Trainer class)

I was thinking about making a page like this, but wasn't sure how to incorporate the changes in levels. As of now, I've seen the Pokémon levels at 30 (this is pre-Elite Four), with the corresponding payout at $600. They're technically not "rematches" per se, so I'm not sure how this should be done properly. ht14 00:35, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

It seems to be connected to the number of Badges the Trainer owns. This above statement was made when I had five Badges, and now that I have six, the levels are at 35 and the payout is $700. I would wager that the lowest level would be after three Badges as that is when the TM for Secret Power is obtained, which would mean the lowest level is at 20 (it seems to increase five levels). ht14 19:48, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
I can double check at each badge amount with my Omega Ruby copy, as with 3 badges, the levels are 16 and payout is $320. Adamws (talk) 23:31, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I know that it has been about a month, but this is a continuation of the above. Ok, so I went and checked the levels and they do follow the 5 level increase per badge, but there apparently are other factors adding to the mix. After beating the League for the second time, some of the Secret Base Trainer Grunts were using lv50 Pokémon, while some bases were using lv35 Pokémon. So, the Secret Base Owner's badge count may have some factor in the levels of the Grunts. Also, the different battle modes affect the levels as well; single battles being the multiples of 5, double battles being 1 to 2 levels lower, and triple battles being 2 to 3 levels lower.
For the suggestion of how to display the levels and payouts, I would suggest listing the lowest possible payout to the maximum payout and lowest level at which the Grunts use to the highest level they use (when the level brake machine is off). Adamws (talk) 19:24, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
Adamws, the lv16/$320 you mentioned before, was that for single battles?
Right now, I have three Badges and in someone else's single battle Secret Base (who's apparently entered the Hall of Fame "17 times"), the Trainers' teams are lv20 and give $400. (Except the owner, who was at lv25/$500.)
It shouldn't be too hard to figure out how many Badges the people who's Secret Bases you gain have, but would you perhaps like, Adamws, to add me as a Friend and check out my Secret Base as I gain Badges? (It may not be real quick.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 20:03, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
The lv 16 was single battles. And sure, we could do what you suggested with checking your Base as you gain badges. I would just need your QR code. Adamws (talk) 20:43, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure how the QR code works, whether it updates whenever your Secret Base does (and you've synced) or what... If it does, maybe I can even save QR codes for each Badge...
Anyway, I've gone ahead and opened up my Game Info and Secret Base pages on the PGL: http://3ds.pokemon-gl.com/user/L-343-2874-J/profile/ . I snuck a look at Serebii, and while it doesn't look like they have any level info, I did come away with the idea that Base ranks (based on how many flags you've gotten, which you can get Medals for) might have an effect. Bases update whenever you sync. You can also create QR codes by using the computer in your Base, so, you can create codes for each badge (these codes will be stored on your 3DS's memory or SD card). Adamws (talk) 21:26, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
I got the next Badge and thereby access to a Base with Triple Battles. Single Battle levels went up by 5 (so lv25 for Grunts), while the Triple Battles were at lv15 for the Grunts but lv30 for the owner. I've synced with the new Badge, and I'll sync again tomorrow with the next one. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:24, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
I said I'd sync yesterday, but I ended up putting it off to today. I also said I found a lv15 Triple Battle. Well, that same base now has lv18 Grunts, but I also found another Triple Battle base with lv30 Grunts. (I've also found a number of other bases with odd Grunt levels.) So. I'm thinking all it's going to be safe to say for a while is that with X Badges, the max Grunt level is (X+1)*5. The only real way to figure out the Grunts is probably when I/we can experiment a lot more with controlled/known circumstances. (And for me that'll basically have to wait for me to be done with basically any- and everything else.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:33, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
I finally realized (some of) what's up with low Grunt levels (see edit to mainspace page). I can't tell how it's being calculated, though; in some bases, the Grunts' levels are higher than the lowest level that the owner has, but in others it's lower, so it doesn't seem to be an average. Unless (the only thing I can think of) it maybe takes an average of the owner's entire team when they save, not just their Secret Base team. (I haven't begun to think about what dictates the Grunts' level increases as the player gets more Badges if they have low level teams, though.) Level Released levels may provide further clues, but I'm not at that point yet. Tiddlywinks (talk) 15:57, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Hyperlinks to Trainer Classes

Instead of deleting the hyperlinks to all of the trainer classes, why don't we hyperlink the name of the grunt to its respective trainer class. The trainer classes have a specific influence (i.e. type specialties and fighting styles) on each class of grunt. To leave the class out means that each grunt is of the same trainer class, but each grunt still has functions specific to its original trainer class as well. Also, when changing class in Fortree, the lady asks which class you are by name. When you are selected as a Secret Pal, this class determines what kind of Grunt you will be.

On the one hand, all the grunts /do/ have the same Trainer class: Secret Base Trainer. it's only their appearances that correspond to other Trainer classes. And I'm not fond of the implication that, going by the table above, if you battle that Trainer, their name will show up as "Hiker Grunt". On the other hand, since in that table "Hiker Grunt" isn't explicitly labeled as the name, I could sort of be okay with that (but always just a little not happy with it). I'd like to say that the TC name doesn't need to be stated, but I must admit that it can be easy to be unfamiliar with which class looks like what. So as a compromise, I thought maybe we can just hijack the parameter that's supposed to be for the Japanese name, like so...

What do you think? This template doesn't have much allowance for other solutions, and I'm not sure how to make the previous template display images well (I did try a bit before saving the current version). Tiddlywinks (talk) 20:29, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
I was thinking something along the lines of your template above actually. I was having extreme difficulties prompting the template to hyperlink the words "Secret Base Trainer" to the corresponding Trainer class though. As you said, the template is not meant to be all that flexible, but I agree that the template you have used works well. Thanks for your work on this article! --C.
