Glitch Pokémon

Should MissingNo. be included here?

  • It has a Pokédex number (000)
  • It has a weight
  • It is a Glitch Pokémon

Pokemaniac102 00:20, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Flawless logic if ever I heard it. Missingno. Master 00:27, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

It's not a Pokémon. :/ It's a glitch. We removed it from the list on Normal... Tina δ 00:28, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
REALLY!! (sarcastic of course) In the article, it said that it is a Glitch Pokémon. OH OH WHAT NOW!?!Pokemaniac102 00:42, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I meant an actual Pokémon, like Bulbasaur. Actual, official, meant-to-be-programmed-in, ones that are listed in official guides. Yeah. >:C Tina δ 00:45, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
People, Missingno. is a Glitch, NOT a Pokémon! Therefore, it should not be included in the list. end of discussion. MERRY CHRISTMAS 00:48, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

I dont think that it is even a glitch. KPF 00:48, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Oh so a Glitch Pokémon isn't an actual Pokémon? No one had EVER said that MissingNo. wasn't meant-to-be-programmed-in. And technically, official guides aren't actually official (unless they were written by the creators themselves).OH OH WHAT NOW!!?!!Pokemaniac102 00:50, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
The "glitch" moniker takes precedence over the "Pokémon" moniker. Besides, I don't go around saying "put Teru-sama in the list of items". It's a GLITCH before it is anything else, the "Pokémon" part merely indicates the type of glitch. TTEchidna GSDS! 00:52, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
How do you know that it isn't a pokémon? It has a weight. It has a Dexno. It has a type (two actually). It has a height. It has a catch rate. It is a species. It has stats. It can attack. It is obviously alive.Pokemaniac102 00:54, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Umm.. how the frick do you know it's an actual Pokémon? XDD; Tina δ 00:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Did I even mention that I know that it is an actual pokémon? I think not! WHAT NOW!?!Pokemaniac102 00:57, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
...the way you're throwing around this incredibly stupid arguement, it sounds like you do think Missinga$$ is a Pokémon, just not any reasons for it.
It's a glitch, it's a glitch Pokémon, whatever you call it, it's just not a Pokémon like say, our good buddy Bulbasaur is. Missingno's 'data' in the 'dex is nothing but garbage, or 'borrowed' from another Pookémon. Tina δ 01:00, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes but I still believe that all glitch pokémon are pokémon and glitch items are items. But of course it is only my opinion. One can't always trust a pokédexPokemaniac102 01:02, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
However.. that's only your mind.. Tina δ 01:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
OR!!!, of course, one could always just put MissingNo. in a trivia section of the articlePokemaniac102 01:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
No. TTEchidna GSDS! 01:07, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
...um. We.. don't need to mention every glitch in articles that tell about data that glitches happen to have.. >_>;;; Tina δ 01:08, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I of course knew you were going to say that(both TTE and Tina)Pokemaniac102 01:09, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Of course, majority rules. End of argument.Pokemaniac102 01:10, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Well. That was all unnecessary. TTEchidna GSDS! 01:15, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
My apologiesPokemaniac102 01:15, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

If I could just input my opinion here...

First off, I wholeheartedly agree with Pokemaniac, for saying that all Glitch Pokémon are Pokémon. I've taken that stand myself for as long as I can remember. I mean, it makes sense. Missingno. has a catch rate, a dex entry, a sprite, attacks, types, a cry, and base stats. Far as I'm concerned, that's what constitutes a Pokémon.

Secondly, I think glitch Pokémon should be included in these sorts of articles, but under a special category. Say, for instance, the page Normal (type). We have categories for pure normals, normals with a secondary type, and other types with normal as a secondary type. I'm thinking a fourth category: Glitch Pokémon with a Normal type. This would include any and all glitch Pokémon with Normal as their only, first, second, or both types (And yes, there is a glitch Pokémon that's Normal/Normal). Just my idea. Feel free to shoot it down at your leisure. Missingno. Master 01:21, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

...
We don't need to include glitches on every single page that's made up of the 'regular' Pokémon, like the Normal (type) page. Look through the history - I think at one point Missingno was on there, but got taken off. See? :p Tina δ 01:36, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
'regular' ? Such Segregation (said in an overly dramatic way)Pokemaniac102 03:02, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, there's a very large difference. Regular Pokémon appear in everything Pokémon-related. Glitch Pokémon don't appear in anything else but the games because they were never intended to be seen by anyone but the programmers. TTEchidna GSDS! 04:16, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Weight divisions

I think dividing the Pokémon into weight classes based on Low Kick/Grass Knot power would make it easier to tell how much damage those moves would do. --Wild Eep 21:29, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Actual borderlines

So, gee, guys, it's great and all that we have these divisions sets out for what affects what, but I was kinda thinking it might be a good idea to point out whether the ranges for the different effects are inclusive or exclusive. For example: "Pokémon weighing between 677.3 lbs and 903.0 lbs have a +30 catch rate when using a Heavy Ball" This doesn't say whether it is between 677.3 lbs and 903.0 lbs and does not include the actual numbers, or whether it does include the numbers.

Basically, I'm trying figure out whether it is "greater than or equal to" or just "greater than". You get what I'm saying? Norle 01:06, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Headings

The headings used to divide groups of Pokémon by weight are extremely inconsistent. Some of the division headings use the actual weights of their lightest and heaviest Pokémon, while others seem to use entirely arbitrary weights in their divisions. (Example: the last section of heavyweights is supposed to include "903.0 lbs to 1041.0 lbs" but there aren't Pokémon with either of those weights. However, the second section includes "11.5 lbs to 22.0 lbs" and the first and last Pokémon in that section have those exact weights.) Either we need to change all the headings to list exact first and last weights, or make none of them exact weights. PhantomJunkie 01:58, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

It's going to have to be redone for Generation V. I suggest someone starts on a brightly colored template.
For the divisions, I'd suggest only dividing into subsections when the game effects change - or would that make some of them too big? —darklordtrom 07:59, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I agree there. Which would mean we would have the following divisions:
  • 0.2 lbs to 21.9 lbs
  • 22.0 lbs to 44.0 lbs
  • 44.1 lbs to 54.9 lbs
  • 55.0 lbs to 109.9 lbs
  • 110.0 lbs to 218.0 lbs
  • 218.1 lbs to 219.9 lbs
  • 220.0 lbs to 439.9 lbs
  • 440.0 lbs to 451.4 lbs
  • 451.5 lbs to 677.2 lbs
  • 677.3 lbs to 902.9 lbs
  • 903.0 lbs to 2094.4 lbs —SnorlaxMonster 08:54, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
What do people thnk of this? (link removed) The bulba colours are kind of just a placeholder, and I'm not particularly keen on the descriptors, but it's a start. Also, it currently has six Pokémon to a row. Does it look cramped on non-widescreen or smaller resolutions? Werdnae (talk) 09:53, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
I think that looks pretty good. Only problem is Shaymin, the form tag makes it bigger than the rest. However, that could be completely ignored and it would still be much better than the current one. Otherwise it looks great. --SnorlaxMonster 12:01, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
I noticed that TTE is revamping the page. I preferred Werdnae's design. --SnorlaxMonster 15:08, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that...

The game developers used weight in kilograms for all the cutoffs, etc.

If you look at it:

The cutoffs for Low Kick and Grass Knot are shown as follows in the article:

  • 20 - 22.0 lb = 9.97 kg
  • 40 - 55.0 lb = 24.95 kg
  • 60 - 110.0 lb = 49.90 kg
  • 80 - 220.0 lb = 99.79 kg
  • 100 - 440.0 lb = 199.58 kg

I'm pretty sure those should be 10.0 kg, 25.0 kg, 50.0 kg, etc. exactly, which make much more sense than 22, 55, 110, etc. pounds.

This means that the values are going to have to be adjusted a bit:

  • 20 - 10.0 kg = 22.0 lb
  • 40 - 25.0 kg = 55.1 lb
  • 60 - 50.0 kg = 110.2 lb
  • 80 - 100.0 kg = 220.4 lb
  • 100 - 200.0 kg = 440.9 lb

What do you think? Ztobor 03:21, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Dust created by heavy Pokemon

I hadn't noticed this until Generation V, but it seems Pokemon create screen shakes and/or dust clouds billow based on their weight. Anyone know the cutoffs for say (these are just example names):

  • No shake?
  • Slight shake?
  • Heavy shake?
  • Heavy shake and dust?

Some examples:

  • Galvantula (31.5 lbs/14.3 kg) and Lilligant (35.9 lbs/16.3 kg) both shake the screen slightly.
  • Archeops (70.5 lbs/32.0 kg) does not shake the screen. (I assume any Pokemon whose sprite does not physically touch the ground are exempt from this weight check.)
  • Krookodile (212.3 lbs/96.3 kg) shakes the screen heavily but does not produce dust.
  • Emboar (330.7 lbs/150 kg) and Scolipede (442 lbs/ 200.5 kg) both shake the screen and produce dust.

I assume they threw this in so that people using Low Kick/Grass Knot could tell immediately a general idea of the power of the move on the current Pokemon, so if anyone knows this information, that'd be awesome. Crassus 02:43, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that one as well... but Giratina, who has two forms, does different:
  • Altered Forme does shake the screen and produces dust,
  • Origin Forme, though lighter than the other forme, does not touch the ground, ergo there's no shake. Palkia38 12:06, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

I noticed the cutoff for the Heavy Shake is at about 330 lbs or 150 kg. Bastiodon (329.6 lbs/149.5 kg) did not cause the dust to form but Emboar (330.7 lbs/150 kg) did. Swampert ManSwampert is Awesome! 16:40, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I know this is a relatively old discussion, but it is interesting and I think it is of value and that some research could go into this. --Wowy 03:29, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Phione missing

Can some one please put Phione back because it's missing, help edit it if there are any mistakes. Thank you. Cinday123 (talk) 08:42, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Didn't realize until now that the page history diffs go by the viewer's local time zone, while talk page signatures go by UTC. I was under the impression that the most recent edit to the page was about four hours before this user's comment. Sorry about that. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 06:17, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Sprite Error

For Barbaracle's sprite it shows Slaking instead of a question mark (since we don't have its sprite yet). Can someone fix this? AwesomeGrovyle (talk) 20:08, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

I think it has been fixed. Tacopill (talk) 02:52, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Shinx and Gourgeist

What's wrong with the weight table, Shinx has the name of Small Size Gourgeist and not Shinx, could someone fix it? --Cinday123 (Talk) 09:37, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

The variable name was off, using n1 instead of n3. Tacopill (talk) 21:08, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Should Shedninja be in a different section?

Shedinja is in the section takes 20 power damage from low kick and grass knot. But shedinja is immune to those moves because of wonder guard. So.... where does it go? Boorider7 (talk) 13:41, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

You could also ask the same about any Ghost Pokemon (immune to Low Kick) or Pokemon with Sap Sipper (immune to Grass Knot). (Short answer: it'd get way too confusing, not gonna happen.) At any rate, it's not impossible to get around Wonder Guard (or a Ghost immunity or Sap Sipper). But the most important thing is really, this page is a list ordered by weight; the consequences of that are secondary. Tiddlywinks (talk) 13:53, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Skitty is listed twice.

Because of how the table is created, entire table has to be altered to fix this. Trainer Yusuf (talk) 13:47, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Fixed. --Abcboy (talk) 14:02, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Split?

I was thinking whether to split "Weight" off this page. In contrast to height, it is a game mechanic, and with a proper article, we could reduce the text on Autotomize's article, for example. I don't know if it's exhaustive enough for an independent article, so I'd like to have another opinion before actually tagging it. I personally think page size shouldn't really be an issue (for example, grounded is pretty much needed imo). Nescientist (talk) 17:11, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Forms

Just wondering, what's the standard for displaying forms on this page? Obviously, we separate them out when their weight changes between forms, but when they stay the same, the page varies between displaying them on timers (eg. Oricorio, Wormadam, Gastrodon), not displaying them at all (eg. Keldeo, Rotom, Burmy), or separating them out anyways (eg. Greninja, Core Form Minior before I changed it the other day). Castform in particular shows its forms on a timer on the height page, but not at all on this one. I know it's probably not practical to show Pokémon with lots of forms (Unown, Arceus) or only minor differences (Pichu) on timers (I was actually under the impression that we stopped using timers like this a while back, apparently not).

Additionally, is there a reason Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist have their form names displayed in line instead of as subscripts? "Mega", "Alolan", "Ash-" I can understand, but Pumpkaboo/Gourgeist sizes don't seem to fit with those, or maybe I'm just being picky.

This concern also applies to List of Pokémon by height and any similar pages, I guess--Cold (talk) 18:26, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

I'm kind of more surprised we switch Meloetta's forms than that Keldeo and such don't have any forms included. If we do Meloetta, go ahead and do it for the Keldeo group too.
Part of me kind of wonders if we should be showing Ash-Greninja. Like, we don't show Cosplay Pikachu or Spiky-eared Pichu in any way. (I can't think off the top of my head if there are any other similar examples.)
(FYI, the switches were mostly a concern on Pokemon pages.)
The names should be more or less official usage or something. If you've got a specific counter-example, I'll look it all over more closely. Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:28, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Totem Pokémon and template trouble

Totem Pokémon and the totem-sized Pokémon available in USUM have different weights from their normal-sized counterparts, so they ought to be listed separately here like any other form that affects weight. The only problem, then, is that the {{weight/entry}} template rather inelegantly pulls the form names from a lookup table according to the menu sprite used, rather than allowing the form names to be defined in their own parameter like the display names (which have parameters n1 through n6). You can already see the effects of this with Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist—since the different sizes don't have different menu sprites, the article has

Average Size Pumpkaboo

rather than the more reasonable

Pumpkaboo
Average Size

And I feel like "Totem-sized Alolan Marowak" would be really clumsy-looking in bold text. The best solution would be to add another parameter to {{weight/entry}} (probably f1 through f6) to provide form names, and do away with the menu-sprite lookup table. (And while we're at it, {{height/entry}} could use the same treatment.) I'd probably be figuring out how to this myself if the templates weren't both protected. — Randomwaffle23 (talk) 20:43, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!

In the new games, Pokémon can have different weight than the Average weight for a species. I was going to add something, but I'm not quite sure how to put it in there with the fact that I don't know if it affects any game mechanics. -EVsandIVsaurs 00:56, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Merging 3 identical sections?

The following sections have the same properties:

204.8 kg to 209.9 kg
210.0 kg to 279.9 kg
280.0 kg to 299.9 kg

Shouldn't we merge them? Y2110 (talk) 14:40, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Unless there's a way to actually set these three apart, I'd say yeah, we can merge them. --Flashlight237 (talk) 17:14, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Those sections were distinguished due to the "Compare" section of the Pokémon X and Y Pokédex. However, it's probably not necessary to split the sections on this page on that basis, when that distinction is incredibly trivial and not even noted on this page. --SnorlaxMonster 17:21, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Hariyama

Hariyama isn't listed here, can someone put it on this page? Yourmommy (talk) 00:02, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

It's there, under the 451.5 lbs. to 661.2 lbs. .28204.8 kg to 299.9 kg.29 section. If a Pokemon is too hard to find in this large article, you can try ctrl+f the article to find what you're looking for.--ForceFire 04:54, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Official site

This Pokedex site can list Pokemon by weight and is putting all gigantamax Pokemon before the rest for some reason in order from heaviest:

Centiskorch - Duraludon - Coalossal - Inteleon - Snorlax - Meowth - Grimmsnarl - Alcremie - Urshifu RS - Charizard - Rillaboom - Cinderace - Hatterene - Urshifu SS - Blastoise - Machamp - Venusaur - Lapras - Drednaw - Flapple - Appletun - Toxtricity AF - Toxtricity LKF - Copperajah - Sandaconda - Pikachu - Garbodor - Gengar - Kingler - Eevee - Butterfree - Corviknight - Orbeetle

Their property is set as: "data-weight="999.99", but I still don't know what creates this particular order.--Rocket Grunt 19:02, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

If you go to the actual pages, the weight is listed as "???.?". That's most likely why they are listed first. Why they are listed in that particular order is probably irrelevant as there are numerous cases of identically weighted Pokémon and they have to go in some kind of order and what that order ends up being is likely just determined by whatever sort/search method they used. Exempt-Medic (talk) 19:45, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Oh oops, missed the data-weight variable, found it now. Ignore my first point. - unsigned comment from Exempt-Medic (talkcontribs)
They are listed by height. Sort it by "Highest Height (First)" and you will get the same order. Reason for it is probably because they cannot just not list them. Oneofthosedf (talk) (contribs) 20:39, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Oh, that's right. Thanks.--Rocket Grunt 09:49, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
