Exact damage boost
The 5324/4096 damage boost was added by Kaphotics in 2012, as part of his work analyzing the damage formula. I'm concerned that since this edit was made in 2012, it's possible that the Life Orb was changed to actually be 30% in Generation VI or VII (although normally this kind of change would be more likely to occur between Gen IV and V). If anyone could confirm this, that would be appreciated. --SnorlaxMonster 05:08, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- I do believe it's still that fraction.
- Anyway, I think there are very good reasons to simplify that to "boosts by 30%", and if that's your intention, I would support that. (However, it doesn't boost power, but damage.) Nescientist (talk) 10:19, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
Future Sight / Doom Desire Interaction
Future Sight and Doom Desire are indeed affected by Life Orb's damage boost in Gen VI. Not sure about other games, however.
I have updated the article accordingly.BurningKirby (talk) 23:10, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
- Does the user lose HP from the Life Orb in that case? And is it lost when using the move, or when the move hits? --SnorlaxMonster 04:32, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
- I recall the user taking damage when the move hit, but I'll test tonight before updating to be certain. BurningKirby (talk) 17:31, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- If you do, could you also test whether the boost is still applied if the actual user has switched out by the time the attack hits, and the replacement holds the Life Orb, please? Nescientist (talk) 17:42, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- The user does take damage when the move hits, and as far as I can tell, switching in a replacement holding a Life Orb has no impact on the damage of the attack. Also, if the user holds a Life Orb, but switches out prior to the attack's hit, the damage boost is not applied. BurningKirby (talk) 02:08, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. UPC suggests that this behavior is present since Gen V, and that in Generation IV damage will be increased if the user holds Life Orb but there is no Life Orb damage at all. (I haven't done any testing, but given how Future Sight used to work, I'd say it's likely I guess.) Nescientist (talk) 15:41, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
