Ember
Hey, just noticed that Houndour and Houndoom don't have Ember listed in Gen. II. They do actually have Ember because I'm playing Crystal again. I'm not totally sure when Houndour gets Ember though because when I caught it, it had already learned the move. - unsigned comment from Ladybetty (talk • contribs)
To clear things up, Houndour starts off with Leer and Ember in Generation II. For example, if you hatch a Houndour Egg in said generation, it will have the aforementioned moves. SharKing 04:18, 25 August 2008 (UTC)SharKing
Related to Growlithe
Not questioning the piece that says he might be related to Growlithe, but is there not equal likliehood that Houndour and Poochyena are related - given they are both canine and dark types? Just a thought... Gastly's mama 00:15, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Possible relation to Growlithe
Granted, there is no way of knowing for sure, but in the physiology section of the article, we have some possible evidence connecting the two families. Should we keep this type of information in the article if it's speculation and interpretation of evidence? Kevin Y (talk) 22:10, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

- Pachirisu is basically a squirrel-based ripoff of Pikachu, and has many similarities with Pikachu. Just like Houndour and Growlithe. I don't care how similar a Pokemon is to another, unless it's explicitly stated by the anime or games that there's a connection it is nothing but fan speculation.
- We might as well find a connection between Blastoise and Torterra for being starters and based off of turles/tortoises. Redstar 22:40, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Then maybe, instead of saying "[A] may possibly be related to [B] because they both [such and such]", we could say something like "[A] is similar to [B] in that they both [such and such]". That way, we can avoid any speculation.
- Yeah, that's my thing. Sometimes it's fairly obvious where something originated from, but other times it's a leap... In this case, all those points are valid save Houndour and Growlithe look almost nothing alike. I'm willing to let the article stay as is, or preferably modified, if an admin/mod agrees to do so. But if they come in and disagree with the speculation, then it has to go. Redstar 05:12, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Most things about Pokemon, as I said above, are pure speculation. That said, I don't mind if speculations are kept in the article are taken out, because if we had to remove speculations, we'd be removing a significant portion of Bulbapedia.
- It's hard to know for sure for Pokemon because everything is fictional. Everything we know is based on the anime, games, manga, and TCG. Very little comes from Sugimori or interviews with people who work with the franchise. But I think this type of discussion is more appropriate on a policy talk page, if it hasn't been had yet already, to determine if speculation should be included in articles, even if that speculation is evidence-based (like all the new speculations of the HG/SS games and the new characters). Houndour name
I thought this might be a neat coincidence, and possibly worth a mention in the trivia section. Faint Attack
I'm playing Pokémon XD, and just purified Houndour. It learned Faint Attack upon purification, but this isn't listed anywhere in its learnsets. Of course, it learns Faint Attack in Gen III at level 37, but mine is level 19 and already knows it. hfc2X 14:57, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
