ユリーカ
I would like to suggest we translate ユリーカ as "Eureeka" rather than "Eureka". You can see if you plug this into google translate that there's a real emphasis on the "REE" sound dragging out. You can also see that these symbols are sounded Yurīka (YOO REE KA) with a long I sound, which is well represented by a double E rather than a single one. Wikipedia:Eureeka's Castle is a strong example of this spelling existing as a name.
Contrast this to エウレカ (the symbols used at http://eurekaseven.wikia.com/wiki/Eureka) which is pronounced "EH OO REH KA" and is pronounced exactly like "Eureka" is spelled. ty (talk) 02:55, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
- Japanese is essentially fine with writing Eureka a variety of ways, including ユリーカ.
- The fact is, "length" as it manifests in Japanese words doesn't really translate well to English words (or other foreign words). In truth, that リー better equates to a stressed syllable in English than anything, which is exactly what the 're' part of "Eureka" is.
- In short, try not to get too caught up in what a Japanese word sounds like. Japanese is in no way required to reproduce any foreign word with any strict accuracy. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:24, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
