How is Adaptability's Damage Bonus calculated with STAB and other modifies? I ask because if my math is right, depending on how they are calculated, it could mean a big difference in the final power of a move.

For example, Brick Break has a power of 75; STAB makes its power 112~ without Adaptability's bonus. With the bonus, if calculated after (or even before) STAB and not taking into account other modifiers, the power should be 168~

However, if STAB and Adaptability ignore each other, and only add a 50% bonus to the 75 Power of Brick Break, the damage is a lot different. 75 + 50% = 37.5 so that means if both STAB and Adaptability adds 37.5 more points to Brick Break's 75 Power base, it would only come out to 150 power in the end, a 18 point difference.

Disclaimer: I suck at math, so forgive me if my math sucks. Yamitora1 (talk) 19:00, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

It's not an additional boost, it alters STAB's boost entirely. glikglak 19:20, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
That's correct; the description itself says: Adaptability increases STAB from 1.5× to 2×. Nothing about using the 1.5× modifier twice in a row. This means Porygon-Z's Tri Attack's power becomes from 80 to 160, not the usual 120 or 180 as Yamitora proposed.--Den Zen 19:24, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
He also asked about other modifiers, such as Light Balls. I wouldn't know, I can't (due to lacking a ROM image) and won't (due to the fact that those ROM images are illegal) check into the source code. Pikachu Bros. (talk) 19:30, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
The Light Ball affects the stats themselves, and move base power, so it's not particularly relevant for Adaptability. Anything that does affect move base power is calculated exactly the same as it's calculated with the normal STAB modifer, except with 2x instead of 1.5x. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 19:35, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Oh I see, sorry I didn't see that it changes STAB itself, I thought it was an additional bonus like Mega Launcher/Pixilate gives. It also doesn't help that I was skipping between the Adaptability Article and the Mega Launcher Article due to various distractions (twitter, multimedia, playing the game and trying to formulate how to best bring out a Lucario's potential for battle. @_@)

Ok, well thank you all for clearing this up and sorry about the mix up ^^; Yamitora1 (talk) 21:07, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Scientific Origin

  • Is it worthy to mention that many Pokémon with this ability are based on invasive species such as Mega Beedrill (Asian Giant Hornet), Corphish and Crawndant (crayfish), Yungoos and Gumshoos (mongoose), Skrelp and Dragalge (sorta of Lionfish)? - unsigned comment from Pescavelho (talkcontribs)
That's speculation and a very debatable interpretation, so absolutely not. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 15:13, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
