{{Ash}} and {{Ashfr|friends}} return to [[New Bark Town]], but before Ash is able to register for the Johto League Championship, [[Professor Elm]] sends him on an errand to retrieve a Pokémon egg from a nearby marine Pokémon laboratory. At the laboratory, Ash and his friends meet up a young researcher who is in a hurry and uses {{m|Supersonic|supersonic waves}} from a {{p|Lanturn}} and detects the singing voices of traveling {{p|Lapras}}. As Ash watches a herd of Lapras from shore, two adults separate from it, one of which approaches Ash. Ash realizes it's his old buddy, his {{AP|Lapras}} that he caught at the Orange Islands, and its mother. It's then revealed that the young researcher's name is [[Naomi]] and that she is studying Lapras Migration routes and is the director of the Pokémon Marine Laboratory. Naomi also mention that Professor Elm told her that Ash will be coming and will retrieve the Pokémon Egg and that's why she know Ash's name. Ash asks Naomi if she spends all her time studying Lapras Migration, Naomi answers yes and that she has been studying the Pokémon Marine Biology, a study of the living patterns of marine Pokémon, she also said that this knowledge improves human life too. Naomi discusses about Lapras migration and why they can navigate so quickly. Naomi says that they can somehow be able to know from a great distance away when the water temperature and season is perfect for them to return. They then share this information with the other Lapras but with an outstanding speed. And she figured out that the key of solving it is in Lapras' voice, then Naomi plays the traveling song that Lapras sing when they travel and they figure out that supersonic attacks can actually pinpoint their location. But [[Team Rocket]] plans to capture the whole herd of Lapras so they can rent them out with {{AP|Pikachu}}. Naomi shows and explains the egg's history and how Naomi got it. Meanwhile, {{AP|Lapras}} invite {{Ash}} to play with him, Misty says that's because Lapras missed Ash a lot and that it has been a long time since they saw each other.  

*It is revealed that Ash's Lapras has become the leader of its herd.

*Ash is asked to deliver a [[Pokémon egg]] to [[Professor Elm]].

===Errors===

* [[Brock]]'s statement that they haven't seen {{AP|Lapras}} since "we were in the [[Orange Archipelago|Orange Islands]]" is obviously untrue as Brock stayed with [[Professor Ivy]] in the Orange Islands and never saw Lapras; {{Tracey}} was traveling with {{Ash}} and [[Misty]] at that point. This is a dub only error.

* In the English dub Ash mistakenly tells his Lapras to use "Cold Beam" instead of {{m|Ice Beam}}.

*When the Lapras freeze {{TP|Jessie|Arbok}} and {{TP|James|Weezing}}, they are seen frozen together, but when {{AP|Pikachu}} uses {{m|Thunder}}, they are separated.
