That was what lead to alchemists trying to perform a certain taboo: Human transmutation.

Siarnaq was the result of its creator's sister transmuting himself with a machine. It was an accident, for she was actually attempting to turn that machine into a working one. The accident occured when her elbow was slightly touching the edge of the transmutation circle. When the process ended, Siarnaq lost every bit of humanity in her.
