Ash's Gliscor: Difference between revisions

Ash caught Gliscor as a Gligar in ''[[DP064|Riding the Winds of Change!]]'', as it along with many other {{p|Gligar}} and a {{p|Gliscor}}, had become trapped in a city after being blown there by a violent windstorm. Gliscor's attempts at using sonar to navigate out of the city were blocked by the tall buildings, and only served to attract more Gligar and the Pokémon soon formed a pack. The pack survived by picking fruit from trees and stealing food from humans. After Ash and his friends helped the pack, Gligar decided to travel with Ash, allowing him to capture it.

In ''[[DP070|The Bells are Singing!]]'', Gligar was practicing gliding with Ash, but it made a wrong turn and accidentally crashed into a boulder. Shortly afterwards, it started being really clingy to Ash, making him recall it. Later, Gligar was used against [[Dawn's Buneary]] to show [[Francesca]] how Pokémon battles work.

 

In ''[[DP081|Chim - Charred!]]'', after a brief talk and recap, Ash and Paul decide to have a battle, and Gligar volunteers to be Ash's first Pokémon. However, Gligar's sheer determination came to a screeching halt when Paul sends out ''his'' first Pokémon: the Gliscor leader from Gligar's former pack. Initially intimidated, Gligar pulled itself together and went in for an {{m|X-Scissor}}, but Gliscor put the breaks on Gligar with a {{m|Knock Off}}. Gligar recoverd and used {{m|Sand Attack}}, but Gliscor, unaffected, flew up and prepared a {{m|Guillotine}} attack. Gligar attempted to counter Gliscor with {{m|Steel Wing}}, but Gliscor's attack prevailed and defeated Gligar. Initially sad, Gligar becomes elated after being congratulated for effort by Ash and the rest of his Pokémon.

In ''[[DP085|Fighting Fear with Fear!]]'', Ash decided to start training Gligar, but this was troublesome as Gligar, despite being eager to impress Ash, had developed a fear of battling following its loss to Gliscor. However, when Gligar and Ash were kidnapped by Team Rocket, Gligar showed it was determined to conquer its fears by perfecting X-Scissor. Later, in order to save Ash from a fall, it used the [[Razor Fang]] Ash received from {{Gary}} (after Gligar had a practice battle with his {{TP|Gary|Umbreon}}) to evolve into Gliscor. It appears to have kept its personality traits even after evolution, as it still cries when scolded by Ash and also winks and sticks its tongue out.

Its first Gym Battle was against [[Byron]] in ''[[DP108|Dealing With Defensive Types!]]''; Ash sent it out against {{TP|Byron|Bastiodon}}. It initially struggled as its Steel Wing and Fire Fang attacks were countered by Bastiodon's {{m|Iron Defense}} and {{m|Flash Cannon}}, respectively. Although it was able to dodge Bastiodon's first {{m|Iron Head}}, it was hit by two more in succession. However, Gliscor started to make a comeback as it cleverly spread its wings to dodge Flash Cannon before landing on Bastiodon's back and successfully landing two Fire Fangs. It was then shaken off, but was able to avert Bastiodon's Flash Cannon by tripping it with its tail. After Gliscor's X-Scissor was overpowered by another Iron Head, it hid behind a rock, though Bastiodon smashed it with another Iron Head. However, Gliscor used this opportunity to make an ambush from above, though it was forced to dodge instead when Bastiodon launched a Flash Cannon. Gliscor then used Sand Attack, leaving Bastiodon vulnerable to another Fire Fang, which was enough to knock it out and thus win the match for Ash and earn him the {{badge|Mine}}.

In ''[[DP127|Sliding Into Seventh!]]'', it was Ash's third Pokémon in his Gym Battle against [[Candice]], where it went up against her {{p|Snover}}. After dodging her {{m|Razor Leaf}}, it hit her with a super-effective Fire Fang, before hitting her with its tail. It was then hit with a super-effective {{m|Ice Beam}}, but despite the major damage this caused, it was able to dodge a second one. Gliscor then went in for a Fire Fang, but Snover stopped it in its tracks with {{m|Bullet Seed}} and finished it off with {{m|Icy Wind}}.

In ''[[DP131|Pedal to the Mettle!]]'', Gliscor battled Paul's Torterra in Ash's full battle against Paul. It first used Sand Attack to blind Torterra, which caused its {{m|Giga Drain}} to miss, before hitting it with an X-Scissor. Torterra then became immobilized after its {{m|Frenzy Plant}} missed, and from that point on, Gliscor was able to gain the upper hand by landing two super-effective hits with Fire Fang and X-Scissor. However, after Gliscor landed a Steel Wing, Torterra regained mobility and trapped Gliscor with {{m|Crunch}}, leaving it vulnerable to Giga Drain, which sapped Gliscor of its energy while at the same time healing Torterra. Although Gliscor managed to escape Fire Fang, it had taken considerable damage, so Ash decided to recall it. It was sent out against Torterra again [[DP132|later on]], where it was defeated after being hit with Frenzy Plant.

 

In ''[[DP154|Mastering Current Events!]]'', Gliscor had an Air Battle with the Air Battle Master, [[McCann]], and his {{p|Scizor}}. However, Gliscor was at a complete disadvantage; it could not make turns and kept crashing into rocks, and it was unable to land any attacks on or dodge any attacks from Scizor, so it lost badly. After training to read the wind with {{Ash}} the following night, they challenged McCann and Scizor to a rematch to assess how much Gliscor had improved. Gliscor did much better this time, being able to read the wind and therefore stop crashing into rocks, and it also managed to dodge some of Scizor's attacks and land its own. It even learned {{m|Giga Impact}}, but despite this vast improvement, Gliscor lost again. However, McCann revealed that he had become interested in training Gliscor due to how good of an Air Battler it was able to become in just one night, so Ash decided to leave Gliscor with him for further training. It then returned to Ash's party in ''[[DP185|Working on a Right Move!]]'' for the Full Battle against Paul in the [[Lily of the Valley Conference]].

He sent it out again against Drapion later in the battle, and McCann's training began to show; it dodged {{m|Pin Missile}} and used Stone Edge against Drapion's {{m|Cross Poison}}, which created a huge smoke cloud that Gliscor cleverly used to obscure itself and thus leave Drapion vulnerable to its Giga Impact. Gliscor then used the recoil to distance itself from Drapion, thus keeping it from taking advantage of the move's immobilization effect. Drapion used Pin Missile again, but Gliscor bravely flew into it with an X-Scissor only to get hit at the last second. However, Gliscor recovered and dodged Drapion's Cross Poison, before defeating it by {{status|burn}}ing it with a Fire Fang. It continued battling against [[Paul's Electivire]], but despite having the type advantage, Gliscor had taken a lot of damage from battling Ninjask and Drapion, so it was defeated after getting hit by pieces of terrain launched by Electivire's {{m|Thunder}}, followed by a powerful {{m|Brick Break}} after Electivire blocked its Giga Impact and trapped it with its tails.

Following the Lily of the Valley Conference, Gliscor was sent to [[Professor Oak's Laboratory]].

Gliscor is one of the most emotional Pokémon Ash owns. As a Gligar, it was a crybaby, tearing up when upset at failing or being yelled at by Ash, especially when it was afraid as shown in ''[[DP081|Chim - Charred!]]'' and ''[[DP085|Fighting Fear with Fear!]]''. It had a big fear of battling other Pokémon and was afraid of high heights, despite being a {{type|Flying}}. Gligar seems to have a habit of sticking out its tongue and winking when appearing. It also has the tendency to crash land on top of Ash due to its inability to glide properly or would land on him for comfort. It would also try very hard to earn Ash's approval and attention. Gligar's evolution into Gliscor saw a noticeable confidence boost as it learned to overcome most of its fears, especially its fear of facing other Pokémon. Despite its evolution, it still kept most of its personality. It still remains loyal to him and is more than willing to try to prove to be strong for its {{pkmn|Trainer}} and itself.

* As confirmed in ''[[BW142|The Dream Continues!]]'', Gliscor is the first Pokémon that Ash has previously left with another Trainer to permanently return to his possession.
