 Axew also seems to see Scraggy as a little brother, since ''[[BW017|Scraggy-Hatched to be Wild!]]'' when Iris told him he was Scraggy's big brother. Since then, Axew always had kept a close eye on Scraggy to keep him out of trouble, and the two have become training partners, and best friends, most likely due to the fact that they're the youngest. In ''[[BW055|Scraggy and the Demanding Gothita!]]'' he was horrified that he might never see him again if Scraggy was given to [[Katharine]], even having a nightmare about it.

In ''Journeys'' it is seen that Haxorus has become an extremely strong fighter, so much that it is the Pokémon that won Iris her championship title. Haxorus most notable trait in combat is its extreme attack power, as it has been able to defeat other strong opponents with minimal hits, such as Ash's Dracovish with a combination of Dragon Pulse and Psycho Cut, and Cynthia's Milotic with a single devastating Breaking Swipe so strong it was able to pierce its Hydro Pump and defeat the Tender Pokémon with a brutal strike that sent it flying. It was even able to battle in equal footing with Cynthia's Garchomp for an extended amount of time, and even put a difficult fight to the Mach Pokémon despite the latter having the advantage of Mega Evolution. Haxorus approach to combat matches Iris' headstrong, risk taking and fearless personality, so much that it was unfazed about diving into a swarm of powerful Draco Meteors. Haxorus has top notch battle senses and focus, being capable of self undoing Outrage induced confusion, simply by slamming his head into the ground.
