The episode centred on two main locations, an open square with a water fountain and a 'few minutes walk away' was a green park ideal for {{pkmn|battle}}s. The location includes a lot of sky rise buildings, its own Pokémon Center and media outlet the North Petalburg News which reporter [[Dee Dunstan]] works.

At first glance, the city appears no different from any other town. However, the entire city is obsessed with the Petalburg [[Gym Leader]] [[Norman]], with residents seen selling memorabilia and wearing Norman badges and shirts. In fact, when {{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} were passing through on their way to Petalburg, Ash was pushed aside because he was attempting to take the spotlight from Norman's {{an|May|daughter}} and [[Max|son]]. North Petalburg's enthusiasm for Norman and his family was overbearing and exhausting for Ash and the gang. Ash battled multiple young male trainers to defend his worthiness as an Petalburg Gum challenger, meanwhile May and Max were carried around in a palanquin out of immense respect.
