:::And on the subject of outside links, that's really only an issue on bigger sites, I think. (Although Bulbapedia is one of the bigger Pokémon sites out there.) Basically, people could stick a link to their own website in their signature or something, and now, they've got links on every page of the wiki, practically. Not amazing by advertising standards, but it's still a free ride. Weather or not a Wiki allows or disallows outside links is really dependant on the Wiki itself though, it's not necessarily a bad thing on it's own. Hope that clears up a few things... -- <font color="#237d00">Jioruji Derako.></font> 22:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

::::Yeah, but the flip side to not substing the sig on every page is, if you change your sig, it changes everywhere. That way, it can always be recognised who posted, even if your sig takes on a radically different look. Plus, it also doesn't look like you're making a really good talk contribution. I often gauge the worth of reading a particular talk post by the number of bytes added (which can be seen on Recent Changes), and higher numbers generally mean longer posts. Except here. I've seen posts that add about 900 bytes to the page, and about 850 of them are the signature. It's ridiculous. Now here are some good signature rules. They work excellently. I've been noticing all these terrible sigs for a long while, and I'm glad we're finally getting around to discussing setting some kind of standard to them. --DarkfireTaimatsu 06:43, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

:::::Just to note, Darfire, that's exactly why you shouldn't use a template. Because it changes everywhere. Meaning, I edit my signature template, boom, the server now has to update fifty, a hundred, maybe even more pages, all in one shot. That's a big drag on the server. And especially if I change a picture in my signature. Using the normal subst: system might have it's drawback, but it's not a big deal normally. If you're changing your signature that often, then it's really your own fault if you end up with inconsistent signatures across different pages.
:::::And even if you don't edit your signature template, other people can. Someone wants to vandalize the site? All they need to do is go to your signature template, and stick some massive coding in there. Having to do such a big update on so many pages at once will probably cause lag at the very least, if not crashing the entire server. -- <font color="#237d00">Jioruji Derako.></font> 11:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
