Both of which could fairly easily be applied to this Pokemon in particular. Though, again, it could have simply been a design choice. There are tons of purple Pokemon that may very well just happen to be purple. I just don't feel that the one solitary issue is enough to associate with Mienshao. Now, if purple had a more general relation to monks I'd be more inclined to agree.
