Yanappu is a primate-like, green-and-yellow Grass-type Pokémon. The proportion of its head and large ears are similar to that of {{p|Aipom}}. The upper half of its head and the broccoli-like sprout atop is green, exempting a pattern of three yellow, tapered seed-like shapes in the sprout's "foliage". Yanappu’s eyes are oval-shaped, with large pupils, and the lower half of its face is yellow with a small, dot-like nose. Its upper body and its skinny forelimbs are also yellow, and its hands seem to have no fingers, aside from thumbs. Yanappu's lower body is green with small feet, and its wiry tail is tipped with two leaves.  

In the {{ma|Pocket Monsters BW}} manga, [[Dent]] uses a Yanappu against [[Isamu Akai]]'s {{TP|Isamu Akai|Clefairy}} in [[PMBW03]] when he tries to instigate a fight between Dent and his brothers [[Pod]] and [[Corn]]. The three brothers use their Pokémon against Clefairy, however, their group attack backfires when Clefairy uses the effects of {{p|Baoppu}}, {{p|Hiyappu}} and Yanappu's attacks to make green tea.

In [[PBW02]], [[Cheren]] uses a Yanappu against [[Monta]] in a triple battle.

* Yanappu was first seen, together with {{p|Kibago}}, as a toy featured in [[n:Movie 13, Bandai possibly reveal new Pokémon|two images seen July 2010]], but it wasn't named and nothing was known about it. In the beginning of August a fake leak of the September issue of CoroCoro showed its own version of this Pokémon. Yanappu was officially revealed August 22, 2010 by [[Pokémon Sunday]].  

* Yanappu is one of the three [[elemental monkeys]]. The other two are {{type|Fire}} {{p|Baoppu}} and {{type|Water}} {{p|Hiyappu}}.

* Yanappu, along with Baoppu, Hiyappu, and their respective evolutions, are the only non-[[Starter Pokémon|starters]] that can have a starter-exclusive [[ability]]. In Yanappu and {{p|Yanakkie}}'s case, this is {{a|Overgrow}}.

* Yanappu is the only Pokémon capable of learning {{m|Grass Knot}} by level-up.  

Yanappu is based off a {{wp|monkey}} and a {{wp|tree}}; the fact that it is based on both may mean it might be based on the legends of {{wp|Monkey tree phenomenon|monkey trees}} or possibly a visual pun on {{wp|Colobinae|leaf monkeys}}. Yanappu, along with its two contemporaries, seem to be based on the {{wp|three wise monkeys}} motif. Yanappu, with its mouth open, represents "Speak No Evil."

Yanappu's name may come from 柳 ''yanagi'', meaning {{wp|willow}}, and from {{wp|ape}}.
