(Japanese: 新シリーズ「ポケットモンスター」ポケモンしらべ隊 New Series "Pocket Monsters" Pokémon Investigation Team) is a one-hour anime special that aired in Japan on April 7, 2023, a week before the premiere of Pokémon Horizons: The Series. Near the end of the program, a short preview for HZ001 was revealed.

Plot

The participants were given challenges revolving around Pokémon Horizons: The Series's promotional poster. These eight participants were grouped into four pairs and each of them was to complete their challenges in various locations in Japan.

First Challenge

This pair was in Shimizu Park. The challenge was a competition between trainers and Pokémon. Their goal was to find three of the Pokémon shown in the poster, Chansey, Ceruledge, and Rockruff. Once encountering these "Pokémon", which were portrayed by costumed people, they had to play/witness an activity with them and win.

Second Challenge

This pair were able to talk to Liko and Roy's Japanese voice actors. They all participated in a rap battle (which was similar to a tongue twister). In order to finish their challenge, they must recite the rap correctly. The two participants were told to sing a song related to Pokémon. The ending theme was revealed to be a rap sung by both Minori Suzuki and Yuka Terasaki, the lyric composer being Ryogo Matsumaru.

Third Challenge

This challenge involved Captain Pikachu, who needed them to travel to places within Japan. The first event had the pair juggling. In the second event, they had to do sky-diving while remembering what Pokémon were shown in the promotional poster.

Last Challenge

The last pair was tasked by a farmer to get some Lotus Rhizomes in a lake, which was later fried and eaten. The second event was to talk to other people in an amusement park and take a ride on a high rollercoaster.
