List of NPC's Pokémon's DVs (Generation II)

This is a list of non-player character's Pokémon's determinant values (DVs) in Generation II; the DVs are also known as individual values (IVs). In this generation, all Pokémon owned by the same NPC share the same DVs (Attack, Defense, Speed, and Special).

For comparison, in Generation I all NPC's Pokémon shared the same DVs: 9 for Attack and 8 for Defense, Special, and Speed; these values are re-used for several Generation II Trainers.

Trivia

  • In Generation II games, the Pokémon's DVs determine their gender, based on the gender ratio of each Pokémon species.
    • All Pokémon owned by male NPCs have at least 9 Attack DVs. Therefore, if a male NPC owns any Pokémon with a 1:1 gender ratio, that Pokémon is guaranteed to be male.
    • All Pokémon owned by female NPCs have at most 7 Attack DVs, except those owned by Whitney, Jasmine, and Janine. Therefore, if any female NPC (except those three) owns any Pokémon with a 1:1 gender ratio, that Pokémon is guaranteed to be female.
  • In Generation II games, NPCs are unable to own multiple Unown with different forms. If an NPC had two or more Unown, they would share the same letter (due to the fact they share the same DVs). However, Unown is not owned by any NPC in these games, making the point moot.
  • In Generation II games, NPCs are unable to own a Shiny and a non-Shiny Pokémon in the same team. While none of the Pokémon owned by NPCs are Shiny in the first place, the game would allow a NPC's team composed entirely of Shiny Pokémon if they had the correct DVs.
  • In Generation II only, the Roar/Whirlwind shared DV glitch is activated if the NPC's Pokémon uses Transform twice and the player forces the NPC to switch Pokémon with Roar or Whirlwind, which causes the next Pokémon sent by the NPC to share the DVs copied from the player's Pokémon. This can be used to turn the next Pokémon sent by the NPC into a Shiny Pokémon or change its gender.
