From 1998 to 2000 Hasbro released a number of hand-held, interactive Electronic Pokémon Figures which were equipped with electronic sounds, lights, and/or speech. They are activated when a pair of connectors on the base of the toy are touched simultaneously.

The sets were released incrementally.

This first release was available starting in November 1998[1].

Even though it was released outside Japan, Meowth's toy speaks in its Japanese voice, and had at least three sayings.

The Pikachu toy attracted controversy because, if the buttons are pressed too fast, its audio recordings are slurred and can be interpreted as profanity.[2]

Second release

This second release was available starting in May 1999[1].

Third release

This third release was available starting in August 1999[1].

Fourth release

This fourth release was available starting in October 1999[1].

Ultra Electronic Figure release

As a tie-in to The Power of One, Hasbro released a special edition Lugia. Unlike the other figures in the line, this figure is also capable of movement.
