This card is one of the 22 cards first released in August 2011 in the English Emerging Powers expansion before the release of their Japanese prints. The Japanese print was released in September 2011 as one of the BW-P Promotional cards for the Bandai Pokémon Kids Special toy promotion.

Super Psy Bolt's Japanese name is that of a Super powered form of Confusion, a move in the Pokémon games that Gothorita can learn. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon White.
