Cotton Spore (Japanese: わたほうし Cotton Spore) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation II.

Effect

Generation II

Cotton Spore lowers the target's Speed stat by two stages and has an accuracy of 85.

In the Generation II core series games, when an in-game opponent outside of the Battle Tower uses Cotton Spore, the move has a 25% chance to fail in addition to its normal chance to miss.

Generations III to IV

In Double Battles, Cotton Spore may target any single foe or ally.

Generation V

The accuracy of Cotton Spore is increased to 100.

Generation VI onwards

Grass-type Pokémon, Pokémon with Overcoat, and Pokémon holding the Safety Goggles are now immune to Cotton Spore.

In Double and Triple Battles, Cotton Spore now targets all adjacent foes.

If powered up by a Grassium Z into Z-Cotton Spore, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

In Pokémon UNITE, Cotton Spore is Eldegoss's second move. It is obtained by reaching level 6 and upgrading Synthesis into it instead of Cotton Guard. The user channels, gathering spores while increasing its movement speed. At the end of the channel the spores are released, damaging and throwing nearby enemies into the air, then slowing them when they land. At level 13, user's Defense and Sp. Defense are increased by 40% while channeling.
