Bulbapedia:Getting started

Getting started
Welcome to Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia - part of the Bulbagarden network.
Since its launch in February 2005, it has grown to include 52,991 articles on a range of Pokémon-related topics.

Firstly, thank you for your interest in contributing to Bulbapedia. It is thanks to users like you that Bulbapedia has grown into the community resource that it is today. All edits big and small help to make this an even better source of knowledge for your fellow Pokémon fans, so please, jump in!

How to contribute
The first thing you will need is an account. Don't have one? Sign up here.

After creating your account, you're ready to go! Anyone can edit almost any page; just find something that looks like it could be improved, hit the edit button, and make a change.

Don't be afraid to edit, and don't worry if you mess up, another editor can always fix or improve it later. If you're not confident in making a change yourself, the talk page is a good place to start a discussion or ask for help. Some actions, like creating new pages, can only be performed by users who have been "autoconfirmed". Other things, like deleting or locking pages, can only be done by certain members of staff.

There are several policies, though most are fairly simple. Mainly, users are expected to follow Bulbapedia's style conventions and to be nice to one another.

Explore below to learn more about editing and to familiarize yourself with Bulbapedia's rules and common practices.

Editing
There are two ways to edit articles on Bulbapedia.

The VisualEditor is a simple What You See Is What You Get editor, great for simple text edits.

The advanced Source Editor requires basic wikicode knowledge, but works well for complex formatting.

Style guide
Because many people contribute to Bulbapedia, it is important that we try to work in a consistent and coordinated manner.

To help with that, we have a manual of style that details how some things should be written, and how pages should be laid out.

Code of conduct
One of our most important and strictly enforced policies can be summed up in two words: Be nice.

Bulbapedia is a safe place for all fans of Pokémon, and bullying or harrasment of any kind will not be tolerated.
