Worry Seed (Japanese: なやみのタネ Worry Seed) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation IV.

Effect

Worry Seed temporarily changes the target's Ability to Insomnia. It does not work on Pokémon with the Abilities Truant, Multitype, or Stance Change.

With this effect, the target Pokémon cannot sleep and wakes up if already asleep.

Generation V onward

Worry Seed now displays the Pokémon's previous Ability before changing it.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Worry Seed caused the sleepless status ailment to the Pokémon it's used against.

But in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and later, it causes the opposing Pokémon's ability to change to Insomnia, just as it does in the main series games.

Trivia

  • Worry Seed's name is a play on 悩みの種 Nayami no Tane; although the expression is roughly "cause of trouble", an overly literal translation can yield "Worry Seed". 種 Tane (seed) is written using katakana to emphasize the move literally involves a seed.
