Worry Seed (Japanese: なやみのタネ Worry Seed) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation IV.

Effect

Generation IV

This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason: Are Hunger Switch and As One affected by Worry Seed? What about Battle Bond in Generation IX?
You can discuss this on the talk page.

Worry Seed changes the target's Ability to Insomnia. If a Pokémon affected by Worry Seed is switched out, it regains its original Ability. Worry Seed can be used successfully even if the target's Ability is already Insomnia.

Worry Seed fails if the target's Ability is Truant, Multitype, Stance Change, Schooling, Comatose, Shields Down, Disguise, RKS System, Battle Bond, Power Construct, Ice Face, Gulp Missile, Quark Drive, Protosynthesis, or Commander.

With this effect, the target Pokémon cannot sleep and wakes up if already asleep.

Generation V onwards

Worry Seed now displays the Pokémon's previous Ability before changing it.

Worry Seed now fails if the target's Ability is already Insomnia.

Worry Seed can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Rototiller was used in the prior turn.

If powered up by a Grassium Z into Z-Worry Seed, the user's Speed stat rises one stage.

Trivia

  • Worry Seed's name is a play on 悩みの種 Nayami no Tane; although the expression is roughly "cause of trouble", an overly literal translation can yield "Worry Seed". 種 Tane (seed) is written using katakana to emphasize the move literally involves a seed.
