Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Wowy!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • Keep an eye on the Messages from the Editor on the main page, to stay informed on current events on Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The é can be accessed by holding Alt and typing either 130 or 0233 on a Windows computer, and by using Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can easily click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a capital B. The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded. To activate your account at the Archives and Bulbanews, please login there using the same username and password you use here on Bulbapedia.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Wowy/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! --MoldyOrange 01:41, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Gym Leaders' Pokémon

Please, we only need one Pokémon from a leader (excluding Brock and Misty). Most of these Pokémon are not notable for an article and they wouldn't have substantial informtion to be a good one. Roark, for example, already has a page for his Rampardos. Please refrain from creating any more. MoldyOrange 01:50, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

What does it mean to categorize it...only trying to help--Wowy 06:36, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, look at a page like Fiore. Notice how at the bottom there's categories, right? You put them in by putting [[Category:(whatever)]] at the bottom. Look what I did to the page you just made, and just make sure to do that so others don't have to. No page BUT the Main Page should be uncategorized. TTEchidna 06:41, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks :)--Wowy 06:43, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

But 의 romanized as "e" is not a part of any conventional Romanization schemes (we use only conventional ones, no custom schemes, same with Japanese [we use Hepburn] and Chinese [we use PinYin]) and "e" also creates ambiguities. --Maxim 14:55, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Korean translation, por favor

Hi, you were listed in the category for people who speak Korean so I'm assuming you do lol. I would like to ask if 즐거워 means "glad" or "rejoice". Because well, google translate is not exactly trustworthy when it comes to these things. That word is allegedly the password for Bianca's pokedex skin on listed on this page. But I don't know any Korean so I can't really know for sure. Also, 이 사용하는 도감스킨을 에 translates to "illustrated book skin". Is that correct? And which part of that is Korean for Pokedex? Thanks a bunch. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 07:31, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

  • I would say 즐거워 means "glad" when by itself. Also, 이 사용하는 도감스킨을 에 makes no sense to me. 이 means "this", 사용하는 means "using", 도감스킨 means "Pokédex skin" (in Pokemon terms anyway). But the thing as a whole doesn't seem to make any sense.--Wowy (talk) 07:51, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
    • Oh ok, thanks. 「벨」이 사용하는 도감스킨을 에 is the phrase on the korean global link site here [1]. 「벨」translates to "Bel", so I assumed that it doesn't matter lol. What is the exact Hangul for pokedex then? Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 07:57, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
      • 「벨」 이 사용하는 도감스킨을 포켓몬 글로벌 링크에 「포켓몬스터 블랙 2・화이트 2」를 등록한 플레이어에게 선물!! means "For players who registered on Pokemon Global Link "Pokemon Black 2 and White 2" we give the Pokedex skin that Bianca uses!" Translation is rough, but you get the gist. 「벨」 is Bianca and Pokedex is 도감 - unsigned comment from Wowy (talkcontribs)
        • So "Pokedex skin that Bianca uses" is 「벨」이 사용하는 도감스킨을 에 in hangul exactly? Also 도감 is "dogam", correct? What does that mean literally? Like how ポケモン図鑑 Pokémon Zukan means "illustrated Pokémon encyclopedia"? Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 09:42, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
          • 「벨」이 사용하는 도감스킨 means the "Pokedex skin that Bianca uses", 을 and 에 are just particles like conjunctions and so don't make sense at the end of the sentence. And yes 도감 is "dogam" and I would say it has the exact same meaning as the japanese Zukan (except maybe it doesn't have to be an encyclopedia necessarily, but just any informative book. I guess that's what an encyclopedia is anyway). I've had a look and it seems they call the Pokedex "포켓몬 도감".--Wowy (talk) 06:58, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Conquest Wild Pokémon locations

I noticed you adding your research to the Conquest locations and I thought those tables could be better. So I made another Conquest thing. I just think the way the Pokemon are split "Level 1-3", "Level 2-3", and all that is a bit confusing, and I also think the notes you've added should preferably be readable without having to hovering over the asterisk.

As I've probably said before, I've never actually played Conquest myself, so it'd be great to hear any thoughts you have. =) Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:50, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

It's definitely looks neater. But I would rather have them listed in the order of Levels 1, 2 and 3, rather than by Pokedex order. I'm not sure, but maybe you were confused by Dragnor. I only realised the mistake on the page from looking at your tables, as it should say "Levels 1-3" not just "Level 1" (as all Pokémon available in Level 1 are available in Level 2 and 3 in every case). This might make the ticks somewhat redundant. Maybe it would be better if we just added an "Availability" column the existing tables. --Wowy(Talk) 01:04, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
I suppose that typo on Dragnor was a good part of my reason. If I had realized it wasn't actually that variable, I may indeed have just added a new Availability column.
I've gone ahead and tried something like that on Dragnor (while also cleaning up the table code otherwise). I'm not gonna claim it's perfect, but...maybe that's alright, you think? The first thing I think of is maybe it could be a little wider still.
(I'll let the template I made simmer a bit, and then figure if I'll delete it later (probably I will).) Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:35, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
I've widened the tables for Dragnor which I think looks better. I will leave the rest for now in case you prefer not to change them.--Wowy(Talk) 01:58, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Oh, I'm not actually that invested in my template it turns out (except a part of me that can't stand to delete something I just made right away =P ). No, Dragnor's fine by me right now. If anything, I suppose by letting it hang around someone else may be able to comment on it if they have an opinion. But don't feel like you have to wait on my account. =P Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:16, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Mr. Stone's Korean name

Here are two quotes from Korean ORAS:

나발명무궁화사장 (52세)에 의하면 “이 머신을 사용하면 지저 깊숙이 잠들어 있는 마그마 등을 원료로 우리 생활을 지탱해 주는 다양한 에너지를 만들어낼 수 있게 됩니다! 음하하하!”
응? 해양관장은 나다만...? 오오! 그것은 데봉의 나발명사장에게 부탁해둔 파츠구나! 이야- 정말 수고했다! 덕분에 출발할 수 있을 것 같군...

Steven's name is 나성호, so Mr. Stone's family name would logically also be 나, making his given name the lengthy 발명무궁화. However, the second quote refers to him as 나발명, leaving out 무궁화. Could you clarify as to how his name is intended to be divided? --Abcboy (talk) 05:07, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Not entirely sure actually.  :S In my opinion, it would make most sense if his name was just 나발명 (such a long name is very uncommon). The synopsis for AG017 on the official website calls him simply as 나발명. If we consider his full name as 나발명무궁화 and his family name as 나, calling him as just 나발명 doesn't make sense, so 나발명무궁화 can't be his real name. I feel the "무궁화" was awkwardly brought over from the Japanese, but I'm not sure whether this was intentional or accidental.--Wowy(Talk) 06:28, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
In Japanese, he wasn't given a given name until ORAS, so I'm not surprised that they had to add it in so weirdly in ORAS, as the Korean translators had already given him a given name prior to its release. ツワブキ・ムクゲ is his full Japanese name, with ムクゲ derived from St Joseph's rod as per the article. --Abcboy (talk) 07:04, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Well, I guess since his name was given as 나발명무궁화 in the games, then I guess that is the name we should put down (even though I think it was a mistake by the translators). To answer your original question ("could you clarify as to how his name is intended to be divided?"), I don't think you can divide the name logically since they've essentially added a third name in ORAS. I'm fine with whatever you think is right. --Wowy(Talk) 07:47, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Disney Adventures

I had actually looked online for people who had that particular issue. Did you find a scan, or do you have it yourself? Could you upload an image of the relevant page? --SnorlaxMonster 14:39, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Here is a scan of the relevant pages. It's actually from the October edition of DA, not the August edition which is what I wrote on the edit summary (I had it mixed up with the August edition which is the one which first mentioned Pokémon Crystal and the Pokémon Tour). --Wowy(Talk) 10:47, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Also note the error for QLD tour dates. It states the event goes from Oct 2 to Sept 6, but I'm guessing it should say Oct 6 since everywhere else the event goes for about a week.--Wowy(Talk) 10:49, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Korean events

Okay first I would like to thank for you all the help with those Korean event pages. However, I would like to bring a few things to your attention with those pages. First of all if the event was distributed at a specific event (such as the Character Fair Pokémon), we like to use the translated name and then put the original name in Korean characters in parenthesis (like how the Generation VI events are handled). Also I have noticed there is a bit of information that is still missing from what you have added (and I am not sure where this information is coming from, but over the past few years or researching events I have stumbled upon a ton of Korean links that will probably be of some use). Okay first the Character Fair Pokémon are missing the original Korean name of the event and the location of the event (which appears to be listed here). Also this blog has a lot of Korean event brochures that may or may not be any additional help. In addition this appears to do with the Tangrowth event (the dates match).

Also we are missing a lot of information for the List of other event distributions in Generation IV page. So here is a list (again all Korean events): Winner's Path, Yellow Forest, first and second Enigma Stone, Member Card, and Secret Key. Lady Ariel 01:14, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. When you say that there is still some information missing, do you mainly mean locations where the events were held? I will try to go through them all again and get more information and their Korean names. I will be getting busier though so I'll probably go through them slowly. --Wowy(Talk) 03:05, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Yeah mostly where the events were held is what I mean (along with the original Korean name). Why did you remove the part in the incomplete template about missing distribution information (when the Times Square Shaymin and all the Pikachu Cafe events are missing information)? Also I would like to point out there is a couple of events on the List of local Korean event Pokémon distributions in Generation V page that are missing descriptions too. Lady Ariel 16:13, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Korean Episode Titles

Hi there, I was wondering where you're getting your Korean anime episode titles from. I've noticed that some of the titles you added (I've only looked at a few so far) have different punctuation marks than the ones included in the titles on the official Korean Pokémon website. I do believe that the titles on the official website are the official/correct ones, unless you have some other sort of official source? --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 05:29, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

I know what you mean. But the punctuation in the official website doesn't appear to be correct most of the time. There was also one instance where the title was completely wrong. What I usually do is watch the intro online that someone has uploaded (I found someone's blog with the episodes). Also, when translating the title, I sometimes add a dash (-). This is because the title has two parts (like a title and subtitle) which won't make sense if I translate it in one sentence.

Oh, and sorry for adding the titles without checking there was already one there--Wowy(Talk) 05:36, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
