Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Jo The Marten!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • Read over the style primer before making your edits. It is a basic outline of Bulbapedia style. For a more in-depth set of rules, see the manual of style.
  • Keep an eye on the Messages from the Editor on the main page, to stay informed on current events on Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The é can be accessed by holding Alt and typing either 130 or 0233 on a Windows computer, and by using Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can easily click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a capital B. The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded. To activate your account at the Archives and Bulbanews, please login there using the same username and password you use here on Bulbapedia.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Jo The Marten/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! --MoldyOrange 01:04, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi

I noticed you have been editing the User: namespace a lot today. You may not be aware of this, but Bulbapedia has a Userspace policy that asks users to try and minimize the number of userspace edits they make in a short period of time. Instead of making multiple edits, why not use the Preview button (Alt + Shift + P) located right next to the edit button to look at your page and see how it is coming? That way, your page can look great while staying within the required amount of edits. Instead of editing the userspace, as a wiki, we encourage users to edit the mainspace. So, if you edit the mainspace more often, you will be allowed to edit the userspace more. Thanks! ----freezingCOLD (page, talk) 22:22, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey Jo, could you by chance post the best Party Table for XD. Thanks. General Ownage Message Box

Never mind about that. BTW: Your one hell of a trainer. I'm more of a battler, but then again I don't participate in contests too much. General Ownage Message Box 02:35, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Usertags

As per the Bulbapedia:Usertag policy, usertags must first be created in the userspace, and have at least 5 users using it. I'll leave it in template namespace for now, since it's likely more people might use this tag. Jellotalk 22:36, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Ah right, sorry about that. Jo The Marten 22:40, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Jo! You messaged me earlier about me asking how to make a Usertag and I was wondering if you could help me make a couple. Pikababy 17:31, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Regarding PokéPark Pad entries...

You're a nutter for deciding to transcribe them all, but bravo on the accomplishment and rather distinguished contribution. Hexagon Theory 07:35, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Heh, thanks. Rather an ironic one as well considering it'll probably be deleted as soon as we transfer them all to the Pokémon pages they belong on. But Werdnae suggested I do it so I did. :B Jo The Marten 07:19, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, the contributions will still be yours; you'll be able to look at those pages and go, "Nice! I made that happen." - unsigned comment from Hexagon Theory (talkcontribs)
And now you can start if you like. There's now a space in the Sidegame template for it. The parameter for the entry is Pad. If the Pad parameter has something in it then the section will show up on the page automatically. Thanks for doing all that work to get their entries. Werdnae (talk) 08:12, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll work on it tomorrow. I'm just adding stuff to the Zone pages for now, then probably gonna go to bed. Speaking of zones, would you mind moving Meeting Center? It's not actually called the Meeting Center in the game. Jo The Marten 08:16, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Done. It didn't seem to be protected, so you could have done it yourself if you wanted. Just something I noticed when I went to do one myself, it looks like a line break (<br/>) will need to be inserted between the sentences when you add it so it doesn't get extremely wide. And don't feel pressured to do it or anything. Werdnae (talk) 08:34, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Erm, why should a line break be required? Could you not make it so that the Pal portion of the template was a div with width set to 100%? Hexagon Theory 08:37, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Or we could do it the easy, obvious way like you suggested. It already is set to 100%. The problem is that the width of the outer table wasn't set. I've fixed that though, so the linebreak isn't required. Werdnae (talk) 08:51, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Hah, I love the example you put, Werdnae. I figured out a way to take pictures without it being a thirdperson view so I'll upload the new images then I'm done for the day. Think the archives should have images of all the Pokémon? Before you say it's a bit much, consider that there are sprites of every Pokémon in the archives from the Mystery Dungeon titles. Jo The Marten 08:56, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
I think that would be a good idea. Hopefully all that stuff can be incorporated into the sprite box once it gets a redesign or something. Werdnae (talk) 09:05, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright. I'll work on it tomorrow. I'll also see about getting the icons used in the Attractions somehow. And don't worry, I'll be fine after some sleep. Jo The Marten 09:09, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Attraction chart

Thanks :) Hm...yea, it probably would work better in the zone articles. Also any help with getting these tables together would be greatly appreciated. I'm actually trying to see if I can work out a theoretical "maximum score" for each Pokémon now (by actually playing the game). For Ursaring, Hitmonlee, Magmortar, Electivire and Metagross, you can easily obtain the maximum score of 99,999. I'm trying out Torchic right now but I can't seem to get any higher than 30,000. I'm thinking of putting the maximum score for it at 25-30,000. OnixPachirisu 23:43, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Body size

If you'd like to hold up for two seconds, I'll automate that. —darklordtrom 11:08, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Sure. I was only trying to help in the only way I knew how. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 11:09, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
No probs. I've set the {{sidegame}} template up so that it automatically categorizes every Pokémon by body size. But thanks for taking the initiative :) —darklordtrom 11:11, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Mission complete.

High five!

Comment about user page :)

"Oh and I affectionately call Porygon-Z "Speak-and-Spell" ever since I heard his voice in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure. "

Hehe, that voice was sketchy. Any idea why they used that kind of voice for it? OnixPachirisu 19:54, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Oops =x

I hope Groudon doesn't give me too much homework today. T_T Vemoth 17:26, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Kilograms

The reason kilograms were removed in the weight page is because there is a seperate page for kg. --Absol21990 22:03, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!

As it would happen, I DID have some more questions. For instance, how many edits do I need to make before customizing my user page? How do I add pokemon to the section of a route's page that says which ones appear there? Why can't Feraligatr learn waterfall? And lots more I won't barrage you with.Crystal4Life 02:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

1. That is a secret even I don't know. It honestly shouldn't be your main concern. :3 You came here to help the website, not create a personal profile.
2. Template:catch/entryhs
3. It can't?
4. Keep discussions on one talk page, alright?

Janovy/Servine

Why can't it be updated? --Loghomewill (Chat with me!)''(Trainers) 21:00, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Cause it's not official. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:01, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh... Sorry for wasting your time. --Loghomewill (Chat with me!)''(Trainers) 21:03, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
You're not wasting my time. It's better you know than to make the same mistake twice. :P Just remember that other fan sites are not considered reliable resources, no matter how many of them post the same data. :) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:06, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, Thanks! It was posted on Bulbanews, so I just thought it was official. --Loghomewill (Chat with me!)''(Trainers) 21:07, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Nah, that was an accident as far as I know. An accident that stirred up a lot of commotion. But the official site cleared it up. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:09, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh. Thanks again. I'm still sorta new and mistakes are the best way to learn, so, by now I guess I'm a genius. --Loghomewill (Chat with me!)''(Trainers) 21:19, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Squirtle's Gender

Why did you revert all my edits referring to Squirtle's gender as unknown? I provided the reasoning and policy of the wiki for it and you just changed them. --Jda95 05:43, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

However, the Japanese version did apparently confirm him to be male. If it's said in the original version we usually go with it, as the English or other dubs might add or remove things. --P S Yライダー 05:52, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I gave my reasoning in the talk page, the personal pronoun Zenigame uses in EP017 does not necessarily mean its a male, as often tough girls in anime and manga use the pronoun. I've brought the issue to the attention of Kenji-girl who I've asked to give a verdict. --Jda95 06:25, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

For catching and fixing that error on the Archaic page. ^_^ --«ιɴмɴιαc» 21:13, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Jo, you are pro at wiki. Because of all the time and effort and blood (or so I heard) that went into those PokéPark Wii articles, you get the number one sparkler. (Also you ditched Wikia, so you got some brownie points there.) Keep it up! —darklordtrom 09:32, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Just wondering

Why you did this? because now it has two Offense and Defense sections. If there is a reason to keep it, uh just revert me :) Dion24 05:26, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

I can see where this is going since there was already a separate section for those under characteristics and we thought it was a vandalism edit. Course if I was the one who dealt with it first before you did it yourself then I would have gotten the message instead since I was also monitoring the recent changes. -Tyler53841 05:32, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh, oops. D: I just noticed a LARGE amount of info being removed and thought it was vandalism. I didn't notice it was on the page twice. Welp, I apologize then, and thanks for catching it. :) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 05:35, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
I sent a message to CamjChari‎'s talk page to explain what they could had done to avoid making either of us think it was a vandalism edit. -Tyler53841 05:38, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Aye, I've sent a message of apology to him. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 05:50, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
I think you meant "sent" and not "seen", but anyway I've seen it and this pretty much brings this matter to a close. -Tyler53841 05:56, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

OK.

Thanks for telling me. --RECGameboy2 00:44, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi!

Sorry for the inclusion of those categories and templates, is the first time I'm trying to create an article for the wiki. I'm completely newbie with this.

Since you saw the page tell me if I made a more errors (except for mistakes in English, I want to fix, of course)please??

What do you think of little that is completed it? The opinion of someone more experienced with the site I would be very useful.

Thanks again. -Hikaru Wazana 01:30, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Friends list

Hi. You just told me that I can't have a friends list. If I deleted it right now, would I get in trouble (I've already edited my page once today)? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 01:16, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Also, I have another question. If I made a usertag does that count as a user space edit? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 01:19, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I believe so. Because User tags are initially made in the user space and are later main spaced. So you would be editing the user space. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 01:27, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
That's too bad. :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 01:27, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Okay, now that my privliges to edit my userpage has returned, can I delete my friends list with it not counting as an edit? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 00:10, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Nope, it still counts. So while you remove it, better get whatever other editing you want to do out of the way as well. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 00:17, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, I was gonna make a usertag, but I guess I must wait until tomorrow. Sigh... :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 00:19, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Bad edit

Sorry for the apparently bad edit on Misty's page. I forgot one second too late that trivia can't be added. Sorry. :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 01:06, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, but

Is there any way I can condense my navigation template at the top of my userpages into a code like the other templates? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 20:25, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

You mean make it so you can just use a template code? If you give it its own subpage under your user space (Such as "User:SuperAipom7/Nav" or whatever you like) you can use "{{User:SuperAipom7/Nav}}" so that way you won't have a huge code all over your page. Is that what you were asking? (Oh and doing this WILL count towards the one user page edit) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 20:57, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
That's exactly what I meant. How do you do that? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 20:58, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Either search for the page title you want to make and where it says "This page does not exist. Make this page?", or go to your page, and in the URL at the top of your browser type in "/Pagenametitle" after your username so again it'll show up like "User:SuperAipom7/Pagenametitle"and it should take you to a blank article page you can create. But after you make it, you'll need to wait until tomorrow before you add it to your page. (And don't forget to do some hard work on the main space ;) ) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:03, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Sorry for all of the questions. Just trying to get used to this website. :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 21:10, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
It's no problem. By asking questions, you learn things. :) Certainly easier than making tons of mistakes and getting yelled at for it. And don't be afraid to ask other admins if I'm not around. They're all quite friendly. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:16, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

My user page

I can't create my user page. Can you put a character or two so I can create it, please? --Braviapert - (Questions?) 19:41, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Nope. Sorry, that's your job. You've got to help out around the main space before you're allowed to make a userpage. If you'd like to just have a profile, and not help out, you can make an account on the forums when they come back up. This is not MySpace, and you'll need to be constructive and earn your userpage. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 19:46, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Too bad... --Braviapert - (Questions?) 19:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm just going to add here that even if someone were to break the rules and help you circumvent the userspace policy, until you've had your account for a short time and made a number of mainspace edits, you can't edit it. The restriction's not on creating. Werdnae (talk) 19:53, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Egg cycles

I was just wondering, wouldnt it be an okay idea to add a section on the game version of the pokemon pages where it shows the egg cycles, egg rate, etc? (Not the Egg Cycle/Egg Rate page itself, the actual pages for each pokemon)

Hunter103 21:42, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Egg Cycles, Egg Groups, etc. can already be found in the infoboxes for the respective Pokémon. There's no reason to make a section for it. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:50, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Re: Abyssal Ruins

OK, as far as I know there is no /official/ translation. However, that said, I see no reason that we can't add them considering that its clearly a simple code once you know the cipher. Seriously, you can go to the ruins yourself and check the code like myself, it works. Even if nintendo hadn't officially revealed this to us I see no reason why we can't add this information, since a.) its just simple cryptography and b.) things nintendo hasn't "official" revealed to us before have been added to bulbapedia (e.g. event pokemon like Arceus, Shaymin, Meloetta & Genesect, the latter two still not being "officially" revealed). Thirdly, the game guide teases that there is meaning behind the symbols (quote, the abyssal ruins section: "Check these stones and you will see they are covered in mysterious letters...what could be written here?) Lastly, I feel it would be a great shame to see all this clearly correct information be disregarded on a technicality (if said technicality exists). The message is as verifiable as can be IMO and I strongly feel that it should remain. Green Zubat 02:17, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

While it's true it says something, how did they come about choosing these exact translations? It's odd that the letters change throughout the floors. Also, it's true Arceus & co. weren't officially revealed, but we could still read their names etc. We can't read this. Someone could make the message say anything they want to and pass it off as official translation. Perhaps TPCi will release translations eventually, perhaps they won't. But I'm not sure whether to consider this research, or just fan speculation... I'll ask some of the other staff about it. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 02:30, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I know its odd how it works but at the end of the day, it does work. I mean, isn't it really just equivalent to GF leaving info in the game in a foreign language and not "revealing" what they say? Like those people you meet on other routes?Green Zubat 02:35, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Well....the difference there is that French is an actual language. :P If you speak French, you can translate that. No one speaks these gibberish symbols though~ At least no one I've seen. Even Hylian has a way of translating. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 02:44, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah, but the thing is these symbols aren't gibberish, they're apparent gibberish, just like French to any non-speaker and just like French (or any other language) there's a clear order to both, not just nonsense and if you how to translate them (i.e. if you speak french or know the cipher respectively) then you can discern that order. The french language & Cryptography are both established practices and GF included them both into the game without "revealing" it, hence they should both be elaborated on in articles about those sections of the game, no?Green Zubat 02:51, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and P.S., in the event that the symbols are Cuneiform as many believe they are (and actual, real world script) does that validate them further?Green Zubat 02:56, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Sure, if it's an actual language, that could validate things right up. By the way, I tested it out in-game. Would you mind supplying the link to the Gaia post that you found this on? Might answer a few more questions. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:02, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
I included it in the talk page, here it is. There's also this one which gets the same message after supposedly cross referencing other sites and countless others as a quick google search will show. Also, where you said "someone could make it say anything" that's not how cryptography/ciphers work, any attempt to use the fake cipher on the code should show the weakness.Green Zubat 03:07, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
P.S. As for whether or not it is cuneiform, I don't know because I don't know that script well enough, though from what I can gather there are several forms, one of which the abyssal ruins supposedly pertains to.Green Zubat 03:11, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm about to go to bed now, 'cause its super late over here however before I go (in case you were still wondering how they got the translation) I'd forgotten earlier to mention [specifically] the code was cracked by trial & error - testing different letters in different positions to see how they fit, that's usually how decoding a cipher works. Silktree/the OP admits that here. Also, thanks for taking the time to actually consider this; I'll watch this space for updatesGreen Zubat 04:30, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

BW039

Is there any reason why you are doubting the Pokemon Smash preview, by putting the Pokemon that appeared in it, in "hidden" tags (or whatever technical name is for those arrow things)? --Dman dustin 17:41, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Because there were two previews shown, one in the middle of the show, and one shown at the end of the show. The one at the end of the show is typically for the upcoming episode, but it looked like the other preview was for the tournament in general. I don't remember them saying it was specifically for BW039 or if they took clips from all four episodes and mashed them together. If you've got any proof that they're from BW039, by all means show it. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:42, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello

Yesterday you told me that my subpage was breaking a policy, by encouraging non-Pedia discussion on a talk page. What i do NOT understand is why it seems like a game or a mission. I've seen that on the policy and i don't see how i broke that rule. This is not to talk back or anything, i just need an answer. Thanks from EvilKirikizan 22:21, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

It seemed like it was turned into a "Who can make the most random comment" game. It'd be better if it were taken here and left off Bulbapedia's main site. Thank you. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 22:40, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Recharge moves

If a Pokémon uses a variation of Hyper Beam in the anime and doesn't recharge, and uses it many times in a row. Does that count as an anime error? I do know that Games =/= Anime. PattyMan 23:08, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Nope. The anime is too inconsistent in terms of recharge moves, or moves like Hi Jump Kick or Take Down where the user takes damage. Sometimes they might mention a recharge, other times they'll forget about it and Pokémon may use moves over and over without caring about a recharge. Probably because the anime is much less "turn based" than the games are and trainers just call out orders left and right. Plus the game has them for balancing things out while the anime only has a story, so they'll bend the rules a bit to help move the story along. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 23:20, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Comment on an old discussion

The reason I commented on the old discussions was that I was asking for something to be re posted. I was not the one to post the piece of trivia, but someone deleted a completely relevant piece of trivia on the page for the Pokemon Treeko. The piece of trivia stated how Treeko walked on all fours in Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue team, even though he is known to be bipedal. Somebody deleted this just because he walks on two feet in the newest Mystery Dungeon games. I commented there because I think that this should be re posted. Thank you for your time. A question of Skarmory

Can Skarmory use "Steel Coat" to search an Special Metal Energy from the player's deck? It just said "Search your deck for a Metal Energy card". --847418742/Talk 08:27, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

I would say no, but I could be wrong. I'm still trying to get a tighter grip on the TCG rules, but typically it seems like special energies you have to draw from your deck or prize manually. But if you want a more genuine answer, you should probably ask Nate. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 13:53, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
OK, thank you very much.--847418742/Talk 08:00, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Pokedex Edit

I added a History section to the article Pokedex and it was reverted. All my info was confirmed way back in Pokemon4Ever,care to tell me something about this ? - unsigned comment from Skarm (talkcontribs)

It isn't anything I personally remember from M04. Apparently the person who reverted you hadn't heard it either. I'll watch the movie later tonight and get back to you. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 01:51, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Alright then.Sammy explicitly stated all that info Skarm 02:45, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
I've finished rewatching M04. Nothing of what you added was mentioned. There was a scene where Ash compares his sketchbook to a PokéDex but that doesn't mean it is a PokéDex. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:33, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about that then,my apologies Skarm 19:38, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

VRU

I was noticing that there was a need for the page Voice Recognition Unit. However I was wondering if I should bother with the page or not since there are not many good images I could find of the device and the only other one I see is on the Hey You Pikachu! boxart. Frozen Fennec

Are you referring to that little gray box you plug a mic into and plug into the N64? Why would we need a page for it? Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 01:03, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Beats me. I just notice it as a red link on a couple of pages. Frozen Fennec
Well I can ask someone else, but it'll be later tonight (due to time zone shenanigans.) Though personally that just sounds like if we made a page for the N64 controller if you ask me. :P Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 01:17, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Card Scans

My mistake, I'll upload with the same names as before... if I can. (I'm not sure I have enough edits or whatever to overwrite the old files.) But... can you elaborate on what you mean about "poor quality"? The quality sure looks fine to me, and frankly they look a hell of a lot better than the Japanese scans currently up... Ribbity104 02:16, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

They're just really bright and saturated. It's nothing too major, but if we were to replace the images, it'd be nice to get really nice quality. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 02:19, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
The image quality isn't going to get much better - the lines and text are all nice and crisp. But I can tone down the brightness a bit. Give me a couple minutes and I'll see what I can do... Ribbity104 02:46, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
All right then, I think/hope it's better now. When you get a chance, can you check out MaractusBW011 on the archives as a sample to see if it looks good to you? Ribbity104 03:00, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's better. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:04, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
So should I start uploading over the old images (if I can)? I don't want to do any irreversible damage here... Ribbity104 03:06, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Sure. They still seem a tad yellow to me but I guess I shouldn't be too picky. But yeah, go ahead and upload over the old files. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:10, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, the English cards are brighter/yellower than their Japanese counterparts. Plus you've only seen Grass types so far. But it looks like I can't upload over the old files anyway, so... I guess I'm out of luck. Oh well. Ribbity104 03:13, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Not just that. I had my Maractus card in my hand and compared it to your scan, that's what I was using as reference. You can't upload over them? That's odd. As far as I know, they're not protected. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:16, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Nope... I can upload over my own images but not the old ones. Guess all that was for nothing!  :'-( Ribbity104 03:22, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Hm...are you aware of anything you might be doing wrong? I can upload new versions of the files and I have no power on the Archives. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:28, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
You have no idea how often I hear that question. No, seriously though, I guess it's because I'm not "autoconfirmed" yet. According to the Archives FAQ I need a certain unknown number of edits/uploads before I can upload over existing files. I guess I'd have to contact an Archives admin to do something about that, hm? Application for Job ???

As the headline said, can I apply for a special job on Bulbapedia ? If so,where do I apply ? - unsigned comment from Skarm (talkcontribs)

What kind of special job? If you're referring to becoming a Junior Admin, then you can only apply during staff drives, which will be announced in the Message from the Editor. Outside of then, you can't apply, but we still approach people we think are ready. Keep editing and show us that you would make a good Junior Admin. Because even during the staff drives, we never have a set number of people that must be hired - if no-one's good enough yet, then no-one will get hired. Werdnae (talk) 19:43, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Some trivia for the Movie 10 page...

Hi, I guess this is trivia, so I wanted to request someone add these things to M10's page. There is no Dub Edits subsection like the other recent movies have, and I've found at least four:

I know some of this is already mentioned elsewhere on the page and other pages, but it would be nice to have an organized list like the other movies do. --The Great Butler 08:59, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Listen...

About 85 or 90% of the episodes that feature a difference in a Who's That Pokémon? from the original to the dub, from EP001 to EP274, are with their phonetic Japanese names. Regardless of what I think, I'm going to keep them the way they are for the sake of uniformity unless they are all changed one way or the other. --LimeGreenCharizard-- 04:17, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

The list is EP's 17, 18, 52, 53, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, snow way out, 84-116, 117, 118, 131, 132, 133, 149, 155, 158-209, 210-269, 271-274. --LimeGreenCharizard-- 04:23, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Could we discuss?

Personally, I think think the 60% width makes the table cleaner to read and easier on the eye. The Names, depending on the length, are all over the place, and episodes like EP039 leave white space around the image. --LimeGreenCharizard-- 07:13, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

It would help to see how you see it. To me, 40% looks like this which I find great. Then 60% looks like this which I think it way too wide and leaves way too much blank space that just seems to be wasted. Also, try to open a discussion before acting next time. Just doing something without discussing it could lead to an edit war. Ask and see what other people might think. (I mean, unless it's an obvious problem like how there are still a lot of missing images on WTP) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 07:23, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh, wow. Okay. My screen is not nearly as wide. Could we compromise with a 50%? Mine is very jumbled together at 40%. And I'm guessing many people see it my way, just as many people see it your way. I need a new monitor... And as for the discussion thing, I'll try, but I find that a LOT of new discussions go undisturbed. --LimeGreenCharizard-- 07:31, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
It would still help me to know how it will appear to you (and anyone else for that matter that has a smaller resolution than me). 50% looks okay, still a little wide. 45% might just be enough. But my issue is, I don't want to save it at 45% or 50% and then have it still look weird to you. So why don't you go in and preview how various percentages look to you, and pick the one closest to 40%, but still fits your needs. ;) There's no rule that says widths HAVE to be in increments of ten. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 07:41, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
If you're going for no white space above and below the images, then 56%. If it's just the names, then 50% seems to do the trick, and would be perfectly fine. --LimeGreenCharizard-- 07:51, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I changed it. This was your choice. No changing your mind now, no turning back! This is what you get! :P Don't like it, too bad! Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 07:58, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. I appreciate your patience and cooperation. :) --LimeGreenCharizard-- 08:03, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Seems one of my fellow staffers didn't like the 50% width, and reminded me that I can make it so EVERYONE sees it at 458px width (Muhahahahaha!!!) so that should make it look better. If not.........well then reply with a negative comment. :P Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 08:10, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I was under the inpresstion we had for most of the Pokémon under Sidegame data, a burb about their pokepark entry. For expamle here is Rayquaza's entry: Rayquaza is a Zone Keeper. He protects the Granite Zone and the Flower Zone. He's also the Attraction Chief of Rayquaza's Balloon Panic. He values promises. I was thinking of linking the part about Rayquaza's Balloon Panic, like this: Rayquaza's Balloon Panic. Which should take the person to the redriect page and then to the section. Truthseeker4449 21:19, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

In terms of your first page and your edit to Umbreon: you just need to follow the Manual of style is all. The all lowercase and all caps makes it look very unprofessional and a little sloppy. You might also look into whether or not what you're adding is notable. WonderMail codes have been deleted 3 times now, and information on evolving Umbreon in Mystery Dungeon can be found here. Porygon seizure moment animation

The animated image, which was last updated by you and features the infamous "seizure moment" of Electric Soldier Porygon, has some kind of a problem. Although it's on proper size on the article, it only shows one frame instead of the animation, which however still works when I go to the file page. Odd. And this has been like this for weeks now. Can you do something to fix it? --FinnishPokéFan92 18:30, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Images that aren't in their original size don't have an animation, meaning that the image should be uploaded in smaller size.--Den Zen 18:44, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
I've uploaded a smaller version, so it should be fine now. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 18:44, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Um...actually we did that because we didn't want to force anyone to see the animation unless they wanted to see it. Therefore, you'd need to click on the image to view the animation. I know it didn't animate. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 19:51, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

How about this?

Vuvuzela2010 Δ 20:02, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Actually, it doesnt matter, it's redundant if it doesn animate, lol. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 20:05, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
I think it's fine the way it is. By being a thumbnail, it isn't animated, but they can still see a screenshot of the scene. If they so choose to see it animated, they can click to see it fully sized. It's not harming anyone, and not putting anyone in any danger. Hiding it only makes it more of a hassle. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 20:06, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Since the image doesnt animate on EP038, and there is a warning, It would make sense to upload the actual scene. I've got an animation ready, if that's okay? It's though its over 2MB though, so you'll need to upload it. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 21:24, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
No. We don't need to have the entire scene. What we have now is fine. Not to mention having the entire scene at regular speed is potentially hazardous. Sometimes you don't know how prone you are to having seizures, until you accidentally experience one. Even if they do choose to click, even out of curiosity, it could be dangerous. I doubt you want to cause anyone to have seizures. We're just giving a sample, not putting people in the hospital. Please just drop the issue. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:37, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm happy with the way it is now, it was just a suggestion. When you said it was fine the first time, I didnt realise you meant the image, I though you meant the way it's shown on the page. Also, I hope you don't take any offence, but could you please not tell me to "just drop the issue", it came across as being quite rude. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 22:06, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Leaf

You know what, I give up. Nobody can listen to reason. I'm leaving not coming back etc... I' sure you have heard it before. But before I do hear me out.

Leaf's name. Where did it come from? She was not in the anime at all. If I'm wrong (and I'm 99% positive I'm not) what episode? Her manga counterpart was Green. (Blue in Japan) Her name is never officially stated in the games Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green, which are the only games that she makes an appearance. Leaf isn't THE default name, but simply one of the many that she can have if the player did not enter a name and is playing Leaf Green. The only place where she is known as Leaf in an official source is, as a dummy trainer inside the game. (Probably to test battles or as a place holder) Furthermore this knowledge was originally obtained through illegal methods, by opening up the Rom in some program.

She has no official name. If the name is based on internal data, then it's important to list that. If it isn't based on internal data and she has no official name, Then its a fan name, so it's important to list that. Why do you refuse to acknowledge this? After all this IS an online encyclopedia specializing in Pokemon, is it not? One would think that this would be important trivia. VoodooChild 21:32, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

You failed to discuss the issue, and instead chose to edit war. You were not reasoning with anyone. The topic of her name has been discussed a number of times, here and here, and here. Six years, and three discussions later, it's still Leaf. Leaf is one of her optional names in English, Japanese, German, and French. Because Blue is both Blue and Green, and the girl only appears in the remakes, she has been given the name "Leaf". This may not be official, but it is the most used name for her. Ashachu is not official either, but it is the name he's been given. This is my defense, it may not be what you're looking for, but if that is the case, please feel free to read over the conversations that have been had over the past six years. Either way, the way you were portraying the name was also incorrect. The correct style should have been similar to how Ashachu is done. Thank you for your time. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:44, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
I didn't fail to discuss, you failed to listen. My reasoning is right there in the edit history, and when I tried to edit my talk page so that it would be easier to read, everyone got mad when I wasn't even done with it.
Either way, it is still important to list that it is a fan name on both and should not be taken as canon. Otherwise it's selectively choosing what information is listed, and may lead people to believe things that are not true. I'm not trying to argue about her name being Blue or Leaf or Green. I'm simply saying that it needs to be noted that it's is unofficial name. (that she is most commonly known by) Take Ashachu for example. Just put down in the trivia that it is a popular fan name used because there is no canon name.
VoodooChild 22:10, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
The idea is to start a discussion on a talk page if your initial edit is reverted and you still disagree with the content on the page. You cannot hold a conversation over edit summaries. Like I said, the page had been the way it is for a very long time and no one had argued about it before, so I figured it was set-in-stone official, plus you were reverted by a respected member of the staff. So I admit I was mistaken with her name. But the biggest issue at hand was that your method of getting things done wasn't in compliance with out Policy and while you were warned about removing talk page comments twice, you still continued to remove content. You're fully allowed to have a custom talk page, but you can not remove the content that has already been put there which includes, but is not limited to, welcome templates, and messages left by other people. The only time you may remove comments is when it violates the Talk page policy. This is why your actions were reverted and your talk page was protected, so that you may learn to cool down and talk to others before you get into trouble. Thank you, have a nice day. "We shouldn't be linking to moves in the special abilities..."

Good day. I'm intrigued by your removal of my entirely factual additions to Stunfisk (Pokémon) on the grounds that "[w]e shouldn't be linking to moves in the special abilities, unless it's actually special to that Pokémon". From Bulbasaur (Pokémon) to Genesect (Pokémon), the Special Abilities section links to moves, not even unique ones. Is this a new policy? All the best. Shiny Porygon 13:14, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

It's not a written policy, no. It's more a general opinion of some of the other staff members, and users. If Pokémon swim for example, we don't need to link to Surf on every single Pokémon's page that could possibly swim. Or if a Pokémon has the ability to fly, that doesn't mean we link to Fly. We find there's a difference between the ability to do something, and an attack. Like all those Pokémon whose Pokédex entry says they can do something, but they can't learn a similar move (Like Drowzee's dream eating abilities but can't learn Dream Eater naturally). Also, the section is called Special abilities. It's not exactly special when a large number of Pokémon can do it. But Mew and Ditto are the only Pokémon with Transform, and so on, so that's unique. I hope I've cleared things up for you. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 13:31, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Right...then it looks like I'll be mighty busy over Christmas excising everything from Bulbasaur (Pokémon)'s list of standard Grass-type moves to Genesect (Pokémon)'s listing of non-signature moves. That's fairly revolutionary and unexpected. But anyway, if both Mew and Ditto know Transform, then, no, that can't be "unique". Shiny Porygon 14:49, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
I'd also like to see the links removed from the Pokédex entries as well for the same reasons. MaverickNate 02:58, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
To comfirm what I'm reading, when the entry says "shoots a Beam from it's mouth" we delink Hyper Beam? Truthseeker4449 12:23, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
More or less, that's what I'm saying. The topic is currently being discussed, you'll all know when a consensus has been decided. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 12:38, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
As the user who added most of those links two years ago, I'm obviously against this. Where is this discussion taking place? Zurqoxn 17:20, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Privately. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 19:58, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
If you would like to give your opinion on these, it will likely be taken into account. Your opinion is far more likely to have weight if you provide a reason for the opinion (i.e. "I think the moves should/shouldn't be there because. . .") Werdnae (talk) 20:15, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Where could we give opinions? Here? Crystal Talian 22:54, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes. MaverickNate 22:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
In that case, I agree that we shouldn't be linking moves in special abilities, unless the move is special to that Pokémon or otherwise specifically mentioned. Reason being, it's simply too difficult to tell whether a Pokémon's ability is a move or not. For example, not all Pokémon who can fly, actually use the move Fly and so on. Almost all special abilities can be formed into some kind of move, Sweet Scent, Fly, Dive, Synthesis, Screech, and others are all general abilities that can be turned into moves. Linking all these does seem unnecessary. Crystal Talian 23:07, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
While I don't really have a major problem removing hundreds of links (espicially when winter break starts tomarrow), I feel that there just too many links and this has pretty much become standard on all the Pokémon pages. In short I feel that they should stay because there are just so many. Truthseeker4449 01:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
I'd like to put in that I would support removing these links. It may be a big job, but we've done bigger before. I think it's pretty well established that 'abilities' and moves are two distinct things, though there are more difficult ones such as Emboar and Fire Punch. Things that are noted as abilities but are not moves said Pokémon can learn can be made trivia items. --The Great Butler 01:50, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

(resetting indent) I'm for it (if we wanted all of our words to be blue we would edit the style not link them). On a more serious note, I agree we are over linked and most importantly I WILL REMOVE THEM IF DECIDED TOO. Mammoth task, so what? Gives me something to do...Epsilonexus 11:35, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

I guess I don't really mind as much as I thought I would, as most of those edits I made 2 years ago were linking when the actual move name was mentioned. I wonder, though, if this will include removing references like this. What about this link? Zurqoxn 17:05, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Meh. First one I wouldn't remove, because you are actually listing the move. Second one is the meh-y one. If that was in the dex entries I would remove (I'm with you Maverick Nate all the way!) it if this act was passed but... Personally I would keep the first and remove the second but my vote around here? Like a two year old in a general election...Epsilonexus 18:12, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Perhaps I should clarify the kind of stuff we're talking about. There's two parts: Dex antries and the Special abilities section. Dex entries is simply whether or not it should be linked when the move is not specifically mentioned (i.e. it uses the move Blah. . .) For special abilities, it's more a decision of whether moves should be mentioned at all there, especially if they aren't special. i.e. That whole special abilities section for Mothim would go away, because using Psychic-type moves isn't special. It's not something that only Mothim (or only Mothim and its relatives) can do. Signature moves are one thing. Moves that can be learned by multiple evolutionary lines are another. Werdnae (talk) 18:32, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Looking over a couple of pages, couldn't we do special abilities the way we do them for Ivysaur minus the links to specific moves? This way, the Pokémon's abilities are mentioned, but specific moves are not. I personally think this is the best way to go about things, because it would mention the Pokémon's abilities with directly assuming that the abilities will manifest themselves as moves. If we remove the special abilities entirely from Pokemon without unique abilities, there'd be a lot of blank or missing sections on a lot of pages. That would be unencyclopedic. Crystal Talian 07:08, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Just because we don't link moves doesn't mean there isn't something special about that Pokémon, though.--Epsilonexus 10:51, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Correcting myself, I meant to say "without directly assuming" up there. Also, was the above comment directed at me? Because that's basically what I just said, in fewer words. Crystal Talian 11:13, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Well sort of. Not aimed at you just trying to make your point more succinct for people who don't like reading longer comments. Nothing actually wrong with your comment though. If you don't like it I'll stop if you want...Epsilonexus 17:50, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Not at all. I was just concerned I hadn't communicated my point well. But in this case: thank you. Crystal Talian 19:48, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm just wondering, does anyone actually have any objects in not mentioning un-unique moves in special abilities?--Epsilonexus 11:01, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Has a descion been reached yet? Truthseeker4449 17:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
More or less, but there's still a few more things we need to iron out before implementing this. Thanks for your patience. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 17:14, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

My Page

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User:Chomper4/BW065 My I have it until further notice? Chomper4 02:36, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

No, I don't think so. We don't have enough info on BW065. When we do, we'll make it in the mainspace. Plus your page was a 100% copy of BW064. Nothing about BW065. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 02:44, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

um,,, why?

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w/index.php?title=Burgundy&curid=127714&diff=1573167&oldid=1573164 I don't really see why you felt the need to undo that.--Marhawkman 22:36, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Because we mention her French speaking habits in the character section. We don't need to have it be mentioned in the trivia anymore than her catchphrase. It's like Dawn saying, "No need to worry," but we don't mention every time she says the word "Contest" or "Piplup." Hope that cleared things up. Have a nice day. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 01:01, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Pansage in Kamii trio episodes

Roggenrola's involvment in this episode was smaller yet it was considered notable, same as everyones contribution in BW048 which we have put on each article and we always seem to mention when a pokemon battles a legendary e.g. Sceptile and Swellow vs Deoxys. So I'm going to revert your revert Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 12:27, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Black & White manga categories

For the same reasons as you removed Cheren's Snivy from its category, should Tep and Gigi also be removed? GoldenCelebi 12:21, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Yup. Both have been hidden until another Pokémon becomes notable enough for a page. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 12:37, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
Never mind. Main characters get them even if they only have one Pokémon. Cheren isn't a main character. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 12:44, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

The headings

Can you fix the headings on Ash's page to the actual ones. I'm not sure which ones are needed due to the edit warring that went on prior to the page being protected. PattyMan 00:47, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Yup. I believe I've already fixed them. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 00:54, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Wow, that was very fast. PattyMan 01:00, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Also, didn't the policy mention that anyone who participates in the edit war may receive a block? Might apply to the archives only. PattyMan 01:14, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Sorry...

Im new here...im not even sure how to reply XD hope im not messing anything up... - unsigned comment from Evezha (talkcontribs)

Nope. I was just letting you know so next time you can spell Pokémon correctly. You're not in any trouble. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 13:26, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Who's That Pokemon Image Question

I wasn't sure if I should move this here or continue this on the talk page for the Who's that Pokemon. What is the best method to obtain the images of the Who's that Pokemon? I have never done this before, but with some information I should be able to accomplish obtaining the images. --Lady Ariel 00:03, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

I use a software known as VLC. It's completely free, and a very handy tool to have around. I usually pop the DVD into my computer and take screenshots that way. Just press Shift + S to take a screenshot. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 00:08, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Okay thanks for the information. I obtained images for the first 11 episodes of Pokémon Master Quest, but I have only uploaded the first 10 images though. I am not sure how to put the images in the table and add the English portion to the table. Would you like me to provide you with the image links or would you like to give me some more information on how to put them in the article? --Lady Ariel 18:00, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
There's not a spot for English images at the moment. I'll fix it, and make it so hopefully no one will bother you as you work. When I do, just add "| [[File:WTP EP___.png|100px]] directly under where the Japanese file is. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:16, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

question

What do you mean by speculation when you removed my edits on Subway Master Ingo's page? Judgement 18:07, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

I mean it's something you made up and you have no facts to back up your claims. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:16, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

I didn't make it up, I inferred it once I knew that the Single trains were the oldest trains from the games. Judgement 18:31, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

That may be, and Ingo may be the eldest. But in no way does that hint to why he runs the Single Lines. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:34, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

How not? Judgement 18:35, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Because you're merely using facts as a base for speculation. Just because the bases are facts doesn't mean the theory as a whole is fact. A brand new train isn't going to be driven by an infant. The age of the conductor has nothing to do with the age of the train. Besides, Ingo is only stated as the eldest in the anime canon. Try not to mix canons to prove your point.
