Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Gen1king!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • Read over the style primer before making your edits. It is a basic outline of Bulbapedia style. For a more in-depth set of rules, see the manual of style.
  • Keep an eye on the Messages from the Editor on the main page, to stay informed on current events on Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The é can be accessed by holding Alt and typing either 130 or 0233 on a Windows computer, and by using Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can easily click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a capital B. The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded. To activate your account at the Archives and Bulbanews, please login there using the same username and password you use here on Bulbapedia.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Gen1king/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! ----PAK Man Talk 16:25, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Link templates

Yeah, seriously, you need to use them. Do it. TTEchidna 02:29, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Heck... by looking at your edits and lack of using them, you've pretty much demonstrated exactly why we do! TTEchidna 02:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Please

Slow down on editing the User: namespace. Editing your userpage too much will lead to it being locked again. Instead of making multiple small edits, why not instead use the preview button (Alt + Shift + P) to check your edits before saving the page? Thank you. --MoldyOrange 22:49, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Link Templates

Please use link templates when linking to stuff such as Pokémon names, attacks, and the like. For example, {{p|Charizard}} instead of just [[Charizard]]. This is so you don't unintentionally link to a disambiguation page.

For a full crash course on link templates, look at the list of link templates. --Shiningpikablu252 15:19, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Pokémon

Pokémon is ALWAYS started with a capital P. Never a lowercase p. Please be more careful in the future. --Shiningpikablu252 15:19, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi

I noticed you have been editing the User: namespace a lot recently. You may not be aware of this, but Bulbapedia has a Userspace policy that asks users to try and minimize the number of userspace edits they make in a short period of time. Instead of making multiple edits, why not use the Preview button (Alt + Shift + P) located right next to the edit button to look at your page and see how it is coming? That way, your page can look great while staying within the required amount of edits. Instead of editing the userspace, as a wiki, we encourage users to edit the mainspace. So, if you edit the mainspace more often, you will be allowed to edit the userspace more. Thanks! --- Kogoro | Talk to me - 05:55, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Hold on!

If you did not read your last warning, then please read it now. You have edited the User: namespace too much for now. Please do not edit your page any more for now. Thank you. --- Kogoro | Talk to me - 06:02, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

thx 4 all the advice everyone i will try not to make those mistakes in the future

Hold up there

now, if you were so thankful to receive the advice of Kogoro to stop editing the userspace, why are you still editing it? you have to stop, it is against the rules or your privileges will be taken away completely. also, when you make a comment, you have to sign it with 4 tildes (~) every time. -- MAGNEDETH 06:49, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Look,

Your failure to listen to these warnings has resulted in your userspace privileges being taken away. Your privileges may be returned in time. Please, next time listen to us. ---- MAGNEDETH 06:23, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

HELP!

Okay, what's the deal here?

I have hardly edited for the past few months ever since I ended up editing my page too much and abusing my rights, I use the preview button and edit my userspace rarely, I often consult the Bulbapedia Staff such as TTEchidna before making the few minor edits I have made, and I'm careful to check Bulbapedia's guidelines for anything that I am unfamiliar with.

Suddenly, out of the blue I CAN'T EDIT.

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT!

Seriously, if something is going on, I'd like to know.

GEN1KING (TALK) 04:49, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

You just editted your User: namespace too much. The same thing happened to me and I have not been able to edit my userpage for almost 4 weeks. I'd make sure that you edit the mainspace at least 30 times before editting your userpage because it slows down the server and clots up recent changes. -LugiaRocks (TalkEdits) 04:58, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for telling me that, you are the first person to actually give me a reason why not to edit it and a suggestion that isn't just just say "STOP".

As for your user page, I hope that you can get it back as soon as possible :) ----GEN1KING (TALK) 05:14, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. :) But, I don't think that I will be getting them back anytime soon... :P -LugiaRocks (TalkEdits) 05:26, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Do some work on the Bulbapedia articles and you'll get your privileges back soon enough. For now though, change your signature so it links to your pages, not User:Example's. —darklordtrom 06:01, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Please change your signature links so they go here instead of here. Your name is User:Gen1king, not User:Example ;) —darklordtrom 01:48, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Signature moves

The signature moves of Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise have always been and will always be Flamethrower, SolarBeam, and Hydro Pump, respectively. SSBB even confirms that Charizard's signature move is Flamethrower (not Blast Burn). The elemental Hyper Beams are just supplementary attacks that were introduced in Gen III. Pics

There's something you should know if you intend to upload any pics from Pokémon movies in the future. The frame ratio (width of the picture divided by the height) of a pic from a Pokémon movie has to be 1.78 or something close to that. Such as: 854x480, 712x400, 512x288 and so on and so on. Any pic from a pokémon movie that isn't even close to that (such as the one you uploaded) is cropped and modified. It was also bad quality. --Hmdwgf 06:28, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank for the tip, but I got permission from TTEchidna, Editor-in-Chief for Bubapedia (as if everybody didn't already know him)to use that picture, so if you want to replace it or modify it, you are going to have to ask permission from an admin (per the Image Revision Policy). Unless, of course, you are an admin, in which case PLEASE DON'T KILL ME! --GEN1KING 06:36, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Hahahahaha. Yes, that was before he knew that your pic was cropped. I'm not an administrator, but I have permission from an administrator to do so. But anyway, keep that in mind if you intend to upload a pic from a Pokémon movie again. Stay cool. --Hmdwgf 10:29, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Talk pages

dont spam talk pages with pointless comments, particularly if its referring to something old. spamming talk pages is against the rules. if you want to have non-BP related conversations, visit the forums. -- MAGNEDETH 23:40, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I just couldnt resist. I understand, and won't do it again, but you gotta admit, you OWNED him! (okay, okay, that was the last time =p) --GEN1KING 23:50, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Talk pages aren't for posting how shocked you are to hear that there's male Lopunny, either. They're for discussing how to assist the article, not your personal opinions. ▫▪Ťïňắ 01:39, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay, sorry, it's just kind of weird seeing that there are male versions of a pokemon based off of a bunny girl. I will try to stop- HOLY SHIT FEMALE MR. MIMES?! Okay, okay, sorry... --GEN1KING 03:46, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
