Bulbapedia is developing a speculation policy that makes clear the consequences of putting speculation on Bulbapedia mainspace articles.
What is speculation?
Speculation is any unconfirmed rumor or presumption made by a user without a source or citation to back up the claim. This can include information such as a Pokémon evolving or being captured in the anime, or a new feature being added in an upcoming game. However, speculation is not limited to guesses about upcoming events; it can also include conclusions drawn about current games, such as a theory regarding an unused item.
Why limit speculation?
Bulbapedia prides itself on accurate information. Besides, if we put something, and then somebody else picks it up, and passes it along, the entire community will be flooded with the information, and if the information turns out to be wrong, then Bulbapedia will lose its hard-earned credibility.
Warnings will be issued to users who insert speculation into mainspace articles. If repeated warnings are ignored, a block or ban may be administered. Speculation should be put in a user's user page or subpage, of course in line with the userspace policy.
