Monta (Japanese: モンタ Monta) is the main character of the manga series Pokémon Master Black & White.

Personality

History

Monta is a trainer just starting out on his journey with his first Pokémon Tsutarja who aims to be a "Pokémon Battle Master". After sucessfully capturing a Minezumi, he hears a rustle in the grass and goes to look. To his suprise he finds a Minezumi and Miruhoggu and decides to capture it. After he attacks the two Pokémon start to run around in circles, he is about to throw another Pokéball when Bel and Cheren appear. Cheren lectures im out what he is doing wrong as Monta is looking up Miruhoggu's Pokédex entry, and he vows one day he will capture a Miruhoggu.

He uses Tsutarja in a double battle with Cheren's Pokabu against a Bike Gang King's Wargle, it looks like they were about to lose, but they uses a combination attack fainting Wargle. Monta battles Cheren in PBW2 using his Tsutarja, Hiyappu and Dangoro against Cheren's Pokabu, Yanappu and Basurao. With Cheren vast knowledge of Pokémon and triple battles, it looked like Cheren could not lose, but was defeated by a powerful Rock Slide from Dangoro.

In PBW3 he captures an Emonga, usuddenly he sees a cave and decides to go inside, he hears a rumble and suddenly a wild Doryuzu appears, he sends out Tsutarja who uses some impressive moves to capture it.

He then sees a Pokémon Ranger and they battle, the Ranger uses his Zeburaika and Swanna against his new Emonga and Tsutarja. The ranger is very powerful and Monta has to recall Tsutarja for Doryuzu after Swanna's attack hit hard. The Ranger underestimated him though and Emonga and Doryuzu were able to knock out their opponents with one hit.

In PBW4, Monta goes on the Battle Subway and is able to easily defeat opponents until he reaches a young man called Dol. He uses his powerful Pokémon to easily defeat Monta's Pokémon and Monta's first loss. Several days have passed and Monta has thought up a new scheme to beat Dol and he encounters him in the forest and asks him for a rematch.

This time Monta's Pokémon's new moves and held items wins him the match.


Pokémon

 
Tsutarja
Tsutarja is Monta's first Pokémon and most powerful Pokémon and is best friends with it. Tsutarja is also very loyal. It was used in its first battle against a Wild Minezumi, Monta ordered a Vine Whip which it uses and it hurts the Lookout Pokémon and it is then captured. It is then used in a Double battle against a wild Minezumi and Miruhoggu. He orders a Tackle on the Mirughoggu, just when he is about to capture it, Bel and Cheren appear.


Later uses it in a Double battle with Cheren's Pokabu against a Bike Gang King's Wargle. It starts off with a Vine Whip, which does hardly any damage. Wargle uses Wing Attack hurting it badly. It is nearly taken out by a Fury Attack, and Monta gives it an Oran Berry to revive it and goes in with a Grass Pledge with Fire Pledge creating the combination needed to defeat Wargle.

It was used in a battle against Cheren's Pokabu, Yanappu and Basurao with Hiyappu and Dangoro. Tsutarja started off with a Whirlwind which dies down before it could reach and gets hurt by Pokabu's Ember. It attacks Basurao with a Vine Whip, but it switches with Pokabu. After Hiyappu uses Surf and defeats Pokabu, he has not noticed that Tsutarja has fainted too.

In PBW3 it is used to battle an Emonga, he weakens it with Leaf Tornado before capturing it. Later the group enter a cave and suddenly the ground starts to rumble and a wild Doryuzu appears and battles Tsutarja. Using some impressive moves such as Grass Mixer and Pound, he is able to capture it.

It is then used in a battle against a Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika and Swanna with Emonga. It is hurt badly by Swanna's Aerial Ace. It is badly hurt and Monta decides to recall it for Doryuzu.

It appeared again in PBW4 on the Battle Subway where it made a quick battle against a Trainer's Palpitoad. It is then used in a battle against a young man called Dol with Gantoru against Buffalon and Kokoromori. It starts off with a Grass Mixer which hits Buffalon but does no affect caused by its Herbivorous ability. It is then hit by Buffalon's Horn Attack fainting it.

In a rematch against Dol, Buffalon starts of with an Head Charge which hits Tsutarja but is unaffected by Tsutarja using Protect. It then uses Grass Mixer on Kokoromori before being hurt slightly by Gantoru's Earthquake. Tsutarja is then revealed to be holding a balloon and uses Slam knocking Kokoromori out.

Its known moves are Vine Whip, Tackle, Grass Pledge, Whirlwind, Leaf Tornado Pound, Protect and Slam. .

Hiyappu
Monta's Hiyappu was first seen in a battle against Cheren's Pokabu, Yanappu and Basurao with Tsutarja and Dangoro. It used a powerful Surf which hurt everyone on th battle field, knocking both Tsutarja and Pokabu out.

It's only known move is Surf.

Gantoru
Monta's Gantoru was first seen as a Dangoro in a battle against Cheren's Pokabu, Yanappu and Basurao with Tsutarja and Hiyappu. It gets hit badly by Hiyappu's Surf, leaving it with 1 HP from its Sturdy ability. It goes in for Rock Slide and surprisingly knocks both Yanappu and Basurao out, giving Monta the win.

It appeared again in PBW4 on the Battle Subway where it made a quick battle against trainers with a Baoppu and a Palpitoad. It is then used in a battle against a young man called Dol with Tsutarja against Buffalon and Kokoromori. After Tsutarja faints, Monta decides for it to use a rock type move on Kokoromori because it would be super effective, but Kokoromori uses Fly and Buffalon hits it with a powerful attack knocking it out.

In a rematch against Dol, Kokoromori starts of with a Fly but is knocked down by its Smack Down. It retaliates with a Heart Stamp which Gantoru is able to withstand with its held item. It uses its most powerful attack, Earthquake which hurts the opponents showing they are weak but also Tsutarja. Gantoru finishes it Buffalon off with a Stone Edge giving Monta the victory.

It's known moves are Rock Slide, Smack Down, Earthquake and Stone Edge and its ability is Sturdy.

Emonga
Monta's Emonga was first seen in a battle against his Tsutarja, Tsutarja was able to weaken it with a Leaf Tornado and capture it successfully. It is then used in a battle against a Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika and Swanna with Tsutarja. It goes in with an Electro Ball attack on Swanna but suddenly the attack misses and his Zeburaika is hit instead. The ranger explains that Zeburaika's Lightningrod ability pulls electric attacks towards it instead. It is hurt slightly by Swanna's BubbleBeam, but defeats Swanna with one hit from a ThunderShock attack.

Its known moves are Electro Ball and ThunderShock.

Doryuzu
Monta's Doryuzu was first seen when Monta entered a cave suddenly the ground started to rumble and Doryuzu appeared, using Leaf Tornado and Pound by Tsutarja, Monta was able to capture it. It is then used in a battle against a Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika and Swanna with Emonga after Tsutarja was recalled. Doryuuzu uses Sandstorm, changing the weather conditions of the battle. It then uses Dig digging underground near Zeburaika. The ranger underestimates Doryuzu's strength and it faints Zeburaika with one Dig. Monta explains that using its ability Sand Power which raises its attacks and doubles the power of the Dig.

Its known moves are Sandstorm and Dig, its ability is Sand Power.

Minezumi
Monta saw a wild Minezumi and decided to capture it, he sent out his Tsutarja and decided to captue it. He ordered a Vine Whip which hurt the Lookout Pokémon badly. He then threw a Pokéball which successfully captured it.

Bel (Bel ベル) is a friend of both Monta and Cheren, not much is known about her, but although she is not as knowledgeable as Cheren. Her first Pokémon was Mijumaru. She first appeared with Cheren, and after Cheren's lecture telling Monta his is inexperienced, Bel says he said too much. She then watches Monta and Cheren battle the Bike Gang King.

Cheren (Cheren チェレン) is friends with both Monta and Cheren, he is very knowledgable about Pokémon, which Monta dislikes. Anywhere Monta slips up he wont hesitate to tell him the right way. He first appears with Bel when Monta is attempting to capture a wild Minezumi and Miruhoggu. Monta is just about to capture the Miruhoggu which Cheren tells him that it is not the right way. He explains to Monta to remember that when two pokemon come out at the same time, you have to knock out the one you don't want first before you can get the one that you do want. Cheren suddenly decides for all of them to take their Pokémon journey together, which a man on his bike overhears. He starts insult them making him and Monta angry.

He uses Pokabu in a double battle with Monta's Tsutarja against a Bike Gang King's Wargle, it looks like they were about to lose, but they uses a combination attack which Cheren thinks of, fainting Wargle. Cheren battles Monta in PBW2 using his Pokabu, Yanappu and Basurao against Monta's Tsutarja, Hiyappu and Dangoro. He starts off with a lecture about triple battles. With he great knowledge of triple battles he gives Monta a hard time, but is eventually defeated.

Cheren's Pokabu is well trained and has a type advantage over Monta's Tsutarja. It was first used in a Double battle with Tsutarja against the Bike Gang King's Wargle. After Tsutarja tries a Vine Whip which hardly does any damage, he goes in for a fire attack which hardly does any damage too. Pokabu is then sent flying with Peck. It goes in with a Fire Pledge with Grass Pledge creating the combination needed to defeat Wargle.

It battles Monta in PBW2 with Yanappu and Basurao against Monta's Tsutarja, Hiyappu and Dangoro. It starts off with an Ember on Tsutarja, before taking a hit for Basurao by switching places with it, not hurting it much. But seconds later, Hiyappu uses Surf fainting it.

Its known moves are Fire Pledge and Ember.

Yanappu
Cheren's Yanappu was first seen in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja, Hiyappu and Dangoro with Pokabu and Basurao. It gets hurt a tiny bit by Hiyappu's Surf, but along with Basurao is defeated by a powerful Rock Slide by Dangoro.

None of its moves are known.

Basurao
Cheren's Basurao was first seen in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja, Hiyappu and Dangoro with Pokabu and Hiyappu. It is about to get hit by Tsutarja's Vine Whip but switches places with Pokabu. It then gets hit by Hiyappu's Surf which does not do much damage. But along with Yanappu is defeated by a powerful Rock Slide from Dangoro, fainting it.

Bike Gang King

The Bike Gang King (Bousouzoku King 暴走族キング), he first appears in PBW1 where he laughs at the thought of the trio becoming battle masters and starts to insult them, annoying Monta and Cheren. He thinks they are weak and challenges Monta and Cheren to Double battle against just his Wargle. Despite being very strong, he was defeated by Monta's Tsutarja and Cheren's Pokabu's combination of Grass and Fire.

Bike Gang King's Wargle was first seen in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja and Cheren's Pokabu. Tsutarja uses Vine Whip which hardly does any damage, and also one of Pokabu's fire attacks. Wargle uses Wing Attack hurting Tsutarja badly and uses Peck on Pokabu sending it flying. It goes in for a Fury Attack which Tsutarja dodges and the duo perform their combination fainting Wargle.

Its known moves ar Wing Attack, Peck and Fury Attack.

Pokémon Ranger

A Pokémon Ranger (ポケモンレンジャー) first appeared in PBW3 where he battled Monta. Monta spots him and goes up to him to ask him for a battle which he accepts. He sends out his Zeburaika and Swanna against Monta's newly caught Emonga and Tsutarja. His Pokémon are very powerful and he has a very good knowledge of abilities, but he underestimated Monta's Pokémon as they were able to knock out is Pokémon with one hit.

A Pokémon Ranger's Zeburaika was first seen in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja and Emonga with Swanna. Emonga goes in with an Electro Ball attack on Swanna but suddenly the attack misses and Zeburaika is hit instead. The ranger explains that Zeburaika's Lightningrod ability pulls electric attacks towards it instead. Doryuzu uses Dig near it but the Ranger takes no notice, he reveals that Zeburaika is strong enough to take Doryuzu's Dig. But he underestimates Monta and the Dig hits and faints it with one hit.

Monta explains that using Doryuzu's ability Sand Power which raises its attacks and doubles the power of the Dig it was able to defeat it.

None of its moves are known, its ability is Lightningrod.

Swanna
A Pokémon Ranger's Swanna was first seen in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja and Emonga with Zeburaika. Emonga goes in with an Electro Ball attack on Swanna but suddenly the attack misses and Zeburaika is hit instead. The ranger explains that Zeburaika's Lightningrod ability pulls electric attacks towards it instead. It goes in for a Aerial Ace which hits Tsutarja and does loads of damage. It then attacks Emonga with a BubbleBeam which does some damage. It is later defeated by Emonga's ThunderShock giving Monta the win.

Its known moves are Aerial Ace and BubbleBeam.

Debut PBW3

Dol

Dol (ドル)is a Rich Boy, Monta meets him on the Battle Subway and aks him for a battle. He sends out his powerful Buffalon and Kokoromori. Monta was no match for him and with some sneaky moves easily defeated him. Several days later Monta asks him for a rematch which he accepts. Thinking the outcome will be the same Monta edges on but Monta's new moves and held items, Dol is defeated.

Dol's Buffalon was first used in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja and Gantoru with Kokoromori. Tsutarja hits it with a Leaf Tornado which does no affect caused by its Herbivorous ability. It uses Horn Attack on Tsutarja fainting it. Buffalon then hits Gantoru with a powerful attack fainting it.

In a rematch against Monta, Buffalon starts of with an Head Charge which hits Tsutarja but is unaffected by Tsutarja using Protect. It then uses Megahorn on Gantoru before being hurt by its Earthquake before fainting from Tsutarja's Slam. It is eventually finished off by Gantoru's Stone Edge.

Its known moves are Horn Attack, Head Charge and Megahorn and its ability is Herbivorous.

Kokoromori
Dol's Kokoromori was first used in a battle against Monta's Tsutarja and Gantoru with Buffalon. After Tsutarja faints, Monta decides for it to use a rock type move on Kokoromori because it would be super effective, but Kokoromori uses Fly and Buffalon hits it with a powerful attack knocking it out.

In a rematch against Monta it uses Fly to get out of reach of Gantoru but is shot down by its Smack Down. It goes in for a Heart Stamp which Gantoru is able to withstand with its held item. It is then hurt slighly by Gantoru's Earthquake.
