In the Junior Warlord competition, each army is placed in an entirely random kingdom; a player may repeat the same story twice and not be in the same kingdom as before. Armies that start in two or three kingdoms will always occupy two or three kingdoms regardless of story or randomization, and each kingdom starting under a specific Junior Warlord—beyond the first—will always be adjacent to one other. The Warriors in each army remain the same from story to story.

The individual stories of Gracia, Hanbei, Kanetsugu, Magoichi, Muneshige, Okuni, Tadakatsu, and Yukimura all take place during the competition; the remaining acting generals—Hanzō, Kai, Oichi, and Ranmaru—do not have stories for this event. Aya, Kunoichi, Ina, and Kanbei are also part of the competition, but they operate under the armies of others and likewise do not have stories here, either.

Each default army is presented below. As the months pass, the armies will develop by recruiting Warriors, forming links, increasing links, equipping items, investing in locations, and challenging other kingdoms to battle.
