Looking at his name in conjunction with the character section isn't 'Trip' a reference to the Olympus Trip 35? Call me old but it was a very popular camera in the 1980's. --Johngalt 21:03, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

:My name's Trip (well, it's the name I prefer). Yes, I like ferrets. The explanation for why I'm called such a thing is the reason I added to the English version of his name meaning—it's short for "triple", which is derived from my name's suffix, "III", aka "the third". I'm not sure it's exclusively Southern US in origin, but my dad's from Virginia, and I'm a guy, so...yeah. (Little story: To my knowledge at the time, "Trip" wasn't exactly a common name when I first heard his English name, so I was flabbergasted and horrified that one of Ash's rivals was named the same as me. However, I still feel very sorry for all the fans out there named Paul, who had it way worse. Trip ain't the first character on TV I saw with my name, though; I was watching the opening to Power Rangers Time Force for some reason, and the Green Ranger was an alien named Trip.) Anyway, I think the fact I added should stay in some form, as it does lend some real-life explanation behind <strike>why anyone would subject their child to endless teasing</strike> the name itself. I do find it makes more sense now that I saw the possible naming reasons here. —FerreTrip (talk) 15:28, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
