I think that how the pokémons are spawned needs a little bit more explanation. When walking in tall grass (or any other area where a pokémon can spawn), what decides when a pokémon and which pokémon will spawn? :I know the previous post was a LONG time ago, but no one responded so I wanted to add to it. I don't buy it lol. Having a formula makes it look all professional and convincing but it is obviously wrong. In Pokemon FireRed you get an encounter about 1/15 of the time you step on a tall grass tile and in Black and White it is like 1/3 or 1/5 on the high end. Obviously they don't all use the same formula. Additionally, if you run away from a fight then you will get another encounter sooner. I know some people say this is a self fulfilling prophecy and not reality but it is, test it. It also SEEMS LIKE you get encounters sooner when riding a bike. Basically I am just saying that simple formula doesn't encompass accurate encounter rates given the different ways it can be effected. Is it possible to find out which pokémon are classified as very common, common, semi-rare, rare and very rare?
I'm talking table:

I'm planning to do a school project on this and I need to know if and where I can find out which pokémon fall under which category for pokémon xy.

== Rate of encounter ==

Anyone have a source for the rate of encounter and the table that is on here? In all games I've checked so far, the encounter rate does not at all depend on the actual species that may appear (as in: it's incorrect). Also, the numbers look way to human than to actually be used anywhere by ''any'' game (it's not nearly at a power of two, it actually seems to be in fractions of 2250 or something). The user who added that table appears to be inactive, so I'm leaning towards removing it (unless anyone objects). :After doing some research, I was able to verify that that table is not used in any game that was already released when the table was added (using disassemblies and [http://upcarchive.playker.info/0/upokecenter/content/pokemon-ruby-version-sapphire-version-and-emerald-version-encounters.html these] [http://upcarchive.playker.info/0/upokecenter/content/pokemon-diamond-version-pearl-version-and-platinum-version-encounters.html two] UPC articles). This also affects [[cave tile]], [[sand tile]] and [[water tile]], where that very same table (!) was simply copied. The most influential factor for the encounter rate is the area, not the species.
