Origin and name origin
There is a speculation I found on several Japanese fansites about this Pokémon, saying that it is based on Newfoundland, a Canadian-origin large dog. "-rando" (-land) on its name helps.
Newfoundland dogs have innate swimming ability. Given the fact that Murando can learn Surf, the relation to Newfoundland should not be neglected. --Obscurites 07:32, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Name
I have been searching the English names of the new Generation V Pokémon and I have seen multiple times that Murando's name is Stoutland. I am unsure if this is true and I am looking for evidence of this.--Kitsune1300 00:55, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- Don't waste your time looking for evidence. We know it is Stoutland. As the green box at very top of this site mentions that "Note that all Bulbapedia's information must come from official sources-not other fansites (i.e. the Black and White species names from the leaked list are not yet official). English Name
I think the "-land" in the name is fairly obvious. The stoutland line is based on Scottish Terriers, specifically. Therefore, it is likely that the "-land" refers to Scotland. Further supporting this idea is the fact that the name begins with an "s". Is this a definite answer? No. But I can't believe no one has suggested it. -Astrithor Astrithor 23:51, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- I think it's more likely to be named after the Shetland Sheepdog. They both have similarish fur and are both herding dogs... Blazios 00:43, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Atsuko Nishida
I think this is wrong, Mana Ibe favrot Pokémon is Herdier. There must be some mistake. Waht Cource say this? A Interview or what? --Altruis でんき 19:46, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Mana Ibe and Atsuko Nishida are two different people, so they can have two different favorite Pokémon. However, the trivium was added by Evacino, whose edits around the same time have come into question; in particular, the source he cited for this one seems to be speculative, so I'll be removing it just to be on the safe side.
