Is it just me, or does Snorlax bear a strong resemblance to the fictitious (and also originally Japanese) creature Totoro? Pokémon was introduced roughly around the time of the movie My Neighbor Totoro as well, and both his mannerisms and appearances are quite similar. Is this worth mentioning? ::My Neighbour Totoro is a Hayao Miyazaki film, and is quite well known in Japanese pop culture. It's possible there could be some connection between Snorlax's design and Totoro. The colours are quite similar afterall.--Bardock 00:41, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

:::I think that snorlax is most definitely based on Totoro. Look at munchlax, for example, and look at the young totoro from the film. Additionally, all of the references in the pokedex entries about children playing on its belly are most definintely direct references to Totoro, since that's how you first find him in the film. Considering Totoro has been aorund since, what, the eighties, and was huge in Japan, I would put money on the idea that he's based on totoro. Honestly a little surprised that the main page hadn't already mentioned this. The similarities are glaring, especially with the preevolution references and comments like sleeping alot and children playing on his belly. So no, it's not just you.
