As much as both I and Bulbapedia hate speculation, wasn't it (very indirectly) suggested that Shamus obtained his Emboar as a Tepig? Because after releasing Ash's Pignite as a Tepig he said something about looking for another one with "at least a little talent". Additionally, when Ash challenged him he decried his former Pokemon for being "unevolved" in the face of Emboar. And even said it still wasn't strong enough to win after evolving into Pignite, indirectly revealing his knowledge of Tepig's evolutionary line.--Benayla (talk) 07:47, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
