Before the seventh Frontier Brain was revealed, some fans believed that Scott himself was the final challenge.

Why would they? Jindai/Brandon was the only Frontier Brain from the games left. Even if he wasn't revealed in the anime as of then, all the Frontier Brains who had appeared thus far had been Frontier Brains in the games.
