Just tested Power Trick with my Swords Dance Gliscor. Used Swords Dance three times, then Power Trick. I went to use Swords Dance again, and I was greeted with "BruceWayne's Attack won't go any higher!" Meaning that the Attack boost did not transfer to a Defense boost as the article implies. The article should be changed to reflect this, or if some modifiers are known to apply, we need to differentiate them. TheBeardedRobot 09:14, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- I wonder how the game actually does the swap. Maybe it just alters the calculations to use the opposite stat, in which case the attack boosts would apply to the defense, but when Swords Dance is used it may still record it as having six attack boosts, and so won't make it any higher. - I tested as far as I thought would be thorough. My Gliscor's Defense (151) is a good chunk higher than her Attack (132). I used Swords Dance x3 and Power Trick in a wild battle. I went to use Swords Dance again, it fails, wild poke hits for more damage than before Power Trick, even though the Defense should be 132 + 6 stages. Rinse, repeat, repeat without swords dance, and comparable damage each time, regardless of Swords Dance use. TheBeardedRobot 09:37, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. Veekun says that the original stats are swapped, and Smogon says that the Attack and Defense boosts are still applied to their stat, so it looks like you are exactly right, this page is wrong. Shuckle in the Anime
Saying that Power Trick makes Shuckle's defense higher than its attack doesn't make sense; Shuckle already has buttloads more defense than attack anyway. If it were only being used to make its Attack higher temporarily, I could understand, but the way it's worded makes no sense right now.--PhantomJunkie 16:57, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Exact move mechanics?
It's stated that the attack and defense values are swapped, so if a pokemon has, say, 100 attack and 150 defense, it'll n ow have 150 attack and 100 defense after Power Trick. Does this also keep EVs and IVs in this calculation, so a pokemon EV trained in Defense will still have those EVs influencing the swapped Attack stats? --Zoen (talk) 01:40, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Regarding the research template on the page
After testing this question with a friend, we observed that:
A regular Psycho-Cut did 21 damage, a Power Trick Psycho-Cut did 16 damage, which checks out with the Power Trick. After Mega Evolution, a Psycho-Cut did 57 damage to Regirock, which would check out in a calculator with its regular attack, but not the Power Trick attack.
So in conclusion, Power Trick's effects do not linger after Mega Evolution.
If anyone needs the stats of each test subject Pokémon to calculate by themselves, or want to see a battle video, please tell me.
Gen IV bug?
May have found a bug, couldn't find it mentioned anywhere: Use Power Trick, level up, stats update and Power Trick's effect has been neutralized. Sableeye deserves better. (talk) 23:39, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
Forms
