English video

Why is the video in English? Isn't it supposed to be in Jap since it was only made in Japan? ^ht14 14:11, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

The caption DOES say that it has translation. Maybe someone put a translation over the Japanese text, or maybe it is a translated version of the Japanese rather than the English version? The Dark Fiddler - Smarter than the average bear! 14:15, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

That part of script DOES appear in English version. It's just unaccessible in normal gameplay. In order to view those texts, you must hack the game. Somebody did it. --Maxim 18:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

GS Ball event

The reason why I put the incomplete notification on the section for the events held by the PokéCom Center is because I'm not sure of the following:

• The true name of the minigame known as "Chieko Dice" as I don't see it being called that way (see below);
• The so-called "ten card quiz" may be incorrect as I see the quiz involving 5 questions for the April 2001 event and 8 for the May 2001 event, as described here and here, respectively.

Those links also refer to the minigame as 「チエコ」にサイコロ, with サイコロ being the Japanese term for the dice game. It also mentions that チエコ Chieko is from Azalea Town.

To put it simply, we do know there was a minigame involving dice and that there were quizzes but we're not sure on the minigame's name and the actual amount of questions in the quiz or quizzes.

Event items

Items available via event such as the event items haven't historically been listed on location articles such as Poké Mart, Pokémon Center, or individual city/town pages, primarily due not only to their exclusivity but also that literally any item could be distributed that way. The Diancite similarly isn't listed on the relevant location articles. For the Game Boy Color, it's clear that the distribution of the GS Ball and the mail aren't even in-game events like the Diancite, but all received via event. --Abcboy (talk) 21:57, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

As far as I know, the GS Ball does actually have an in-game event similar to Diancite. That said, it bears repeating that Diancite isn't on any location pages. By the same token, then, I don't really think we need to mention the cartridge GS Ball in the item template here. (Possibly something could be noted nearby, but I don't really think that's necessary either.)

I know of no reason to suspect that the mails are particularly different from standard event item deliveries, though, so I do not think that those belong in the Items section at all (the same as all other event-distributed items). Tiddlywinks (talk) 23:13, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

My main concern is that including only the VC in the GS Ball's description is highly misleading and suggests to readers that it was not available (in this location) in non-VC releases. As far as I know, this is the first time in the core series that this situation has come up (same item, same location, same game; event-exclusive in one edition and normally available in another), so I think it's definitely worth re-examining our historical assumptions in the face of an unprecedented situation. My vote is strongly to not list the GS Ball as VC-only; I am more than willing to get on board with any other solution but that. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 04:51, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

...Are you trying to argue that misleading readers is OK if there's not tangible harm caused? I think our very existence as an encyclopedia should make it self-evident that we should be trying to give the full truth as clearly as possible. It's reasonably arguable that we already "mislead" readers by not listing most other event items. Reasonably, the GS Ball is not available on the cartridge.

I think the fact that a falsehood would be on the page is harm enough, but that's a more one-on-one matter I've taken to your talk page instead of continuing a philosophical discussion here. In the interest of attempting to wrap this dispute up in a way everyone involved will be happy, I have attempted to dream up a better solution and am editing it in now. I am now thinking more than before that it does not matter if someone misunderstands whether the GS Ball is available at all outside of the VC version. I do believe that would be entirely their own fault.

Let's briefly consider Kalos Route 21. On this page, Red-Striped Basculin is listed as available, but Blue-Striped is not mentioned nearby at all.

I do not see any meaningful difference between that situation and the situation in question on this page.

Let's consider another situation. On the Aether Paradise page, "All memory drives" are listed as only available in SM. USUM is not touched on at all for the Memories.

Now, why would any reasonable person stop their thought processes with only the information available on those pages? For either Basculin or the Memories, you would expect a person to check Basculin or Memory for further possible information. The GS Ball here should be no different. It doesn't matter at all that the event "location" is also here. If someone wants to know about the GS Ball outside the VC version, there should not be any problem in expecting them to check GS Ball. If they presume it's just not available at all after only seeing this page, that's very simply their fault. Tiddlywinks (talk) 11:42, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
