I think that Pineco's design is partially based on Chinese paper lanterns:

Pineco's Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald dex entries remind me of the fruit from Hura Crepitans, AKA the sandbox tree. When the fruit drops from the trees and onto the ground it violently explodes on impact and the individual seed pods that made it up basically become shrapnel that could cause injury to nearby people or animals, not unlike the hand grenades Pineco seems to be based on. Headbutt

Hey so I don't know how all the editing works and stuff, just made an account and thought I'd let you guys know I found a Pineco in my copy of SoulSilver when I headbutted a tree on Route 37 (shouldn't make a difference which one, but it was that one in the middle of the clearing where the two Twins are standing in front of). --Bombercules 23:18, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the info! I'll add that now. ZestyCactus 23:23, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
