:You have to take into consideration that this is not "other fictions", so the fact that clones could be a different gender in the example you linked doesn't necessarily apply here. Regardless, from what I understand, the clones Mewtwo created were (near) perfect genetic clones of the originals, and thus the genders would be the same.
