reward

After playing through a particular Magnagate Dungeon three times in a row to test something, I realized you get the same exact reward every time you complete a particular dungeon. This is probably something we should keep track of and add to the table along with the difficulty.--Hastings (talk) 03:22, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Anybody?

I think that the Pokemon that you can play as in magnagate dungeons are the three starters' evolutions that are not you or the partner? Is that correct? I have axew and pikachu. In the magnagate I always have dewott, pignite and servine. Also, do the bosses/dungeon leaders vary per dungeon?Raykyogrou0 (talk) 16:40, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

I believe so for the first part. I have Axew and Snivy in the normal game, and I always get the other three or a pairing consisting of two of the three I didn't choose. I need to research the leaders a bit more, though. Berrenta (talk) 19:20, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Redo

I think that it would be best if this page was redone. It only covers the Discover a Magnagate feature, and says nothing about Ley Lines (I think that's what they were called, anyway; I can't remember, and they aren't on the page), Magnagate Researchers like Espeon and Umbreon, their place in the plot, Entercards, or anything like that. Unfortunately, since I don't remember most of this stuff, I wouldn't be able to do it on my own. Does anyone agree with me that this page should be redone, or at least moved to "Discover a Magnagate" instead of just Magnagate? EpicDeino (talk) 00:12, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

I agree with the redo idea. It seems not alot of GTI information was added as much as it could have been. Magnagates are a central point in the game's main story, so an article called "Magnagate" should cover all of that. As for the extra feature of "discovering a Magnagate" accessed from the main menu, I believe that should still be on this page, but only as one or two sections. Magnagate Dungeons, revisited

So after playing alot of GTI, I've found some stuff that may lead to adding more information on Magnagates (bear with me there's gonna be quite a bit of writing here). To start off, Magnagate can refer to two things. In the storyline of GTI, it's a portal to a random dungeon opened by an arrangement of Entercards, and the exit of the dungeon leads to the intended destination (assuming the using of the Entercards was a success). The characters in the story that are regular users of Entercards are Umbreon, Espeon, and Keldeo.

After that, there's the "Discover a Magnagate" mode of the game that involves scanning a round object. From doing a few of these and looking through a few online sources, I've found a number of theories, rumors, and some hard facts.

Some of the theories/rumors I've come across:

  • Size and color of the object scanned matters - Honestly, I have scanned multiple objects, some more than once, and gotten a variety of difficulties and dungeon lengths. It's quite possible this is not 100% true.
  • The more Magnagate dungeons you find, the harder new ones will be - So far, I have opened up a total of 16 Magnagates. Granted, it's not a whole lot, but I get a range of 3 to 6 stars in difficulty. I started off only getting 3-4 stars before I found maybe 10 dungeons, and now I get a mix of numbers (The maximum I've ever seen on any main-game mission is 10 stars, so I don't think anything above that is possible, though the article states 3 to 13 for this game mode)
  • There is a potentially infinite number of accessible dungeons - A walkthrough from GameFAQs I read said he's heard there are around 512 possible dungeons. What I can say for certain is they all follow a two word naming pattern, with the first word being pulled from one collection (Alluring, Aspiring, Joyous, Treasure, Unity, etc.), and the second word being pulled from a list of dungeon "types" (Cliffs, Maze, Outcrop, Woods, etc.). I suppose when you've run out of combinations of the words the game uses, you've run out of dungeons. Whether or not that totals to 512, I have no idea.

Now, from testing it myself, I've gathered some actual facts about this game mode. Barring the help option, the game gives you three things you can do: Discover a new Magnagate (which makes use of the camera), visit a Magnagate dungeon you've already been to (all the one's you've found are saved in a list), and delete a Magnagate dungeon from the list of ones you've been to. Here's what I've discovered:

  • You cannot "discover" the same dungeon twice - Once you've found a dungeon, it's saved. If you go to scan another round object, even if it's one you've scanned before, you'll be taken to a new dungeon (I suppose you can "discover" one you've deleted, but I've never found a point in deleting any). This is what is giving me doubt on the "size and color matters" theory.
  • You enter the dungeon with two to four of the possible starters of the game - The dungeon you enter will always give you a team of some combination of Pikachu, Axew, Servine, Pignite, and Dewott (or their evolutions depending on the level you're thrown in at). When you go back and redo a dungeon you've already been to, you can choose which starter to go as (you can be any one of the five available), and your team size will remain the same as the first time, with the game picking what other starters go with you.
  • Each dungeon has a length and a star difficulty - When you look at the list of dungeons you've been to, they will be classified by a length. "Short" seems to be 5-6 floors with a boss on the fifth, "Normal" seems to be 8-9 floors with a boss on the last. The difficulty, in stars, seems to be directly related to the level your team is given (3 stars = Levels 20-23, 4/5 = 25-30, 6 = 30-36 from what I've seen)
  • You keep all Team Skills and Move Ranks - The Team Skills I've collected in the main game have been activated in this mode (such as Stair-Seeking), and I keep my move ranks. However, moves cannot rank up in this mode. Also, if you've gained the ability to change the leader of your team mid-dungeon in the main game (post Worldcore), you can do that here.
  • The reward for a single dungeon is always the same, the boss may vary - I went through Unknown Barrens four times in a row. The reward was always 300 Poké, a Stayaway Orb, a Fickle Ribbon, and a See-Trap Orb. The leader of the boss team was always an Archen (the leader is the one in the back that, when defeated, causes the others to enter Enraged status), but his "lackeys" changed each time.
  • The number of Pokémon you take into the dungeon is random (2-4), and the number of Pokémon on the boss team is the same - When I had two Pokémon on my team in the Unknown Barrens, the Archen had a Scraggy by his side. When I had three, it was a Vaporeon and a Vullaby. The two times I had four, one time had a Vullaby, a Deino, and a Swoobat with the Archen, and the other time it was a Swinub, Dunsparce, Sandile team (again, with the Archen).
  • You cannot recruit in these dungeons, and experience does not matter - The recruiting part is self explanatory. When I say experience doesn't matter, this only applies to after you leave. If anything on your temporary team leveled up, the next time you go through that dungeon (or another dungeon of the same difficulty), they will be back at the starting level that they give you (never lower than 20, it seems).

Long story short, I have no clue where to go from here. I plan to keep doing some research on this game mode, but where it goes on Bulbapedia? You got me. Whether each dungeon should have its own page, I don't know. What I do know is there's still a ton more information to be found. I've only been to 16 unique dungeons, so really, I haven't even scratched the surface of this game mode, and I still got all of this information. What I can also say for certain is that the current "Magnagate" article doesn't nearly relay what the concept is about, but only one page on all of this would probably end up being too large and could end up here if we're not careful. EDIT: And now I have recently discovered that you can only have 16 dungeons saved at any time. If you have 16 saved and complete a new one, you have to delete an old one or not save the new one in your dungeon list. *Throws hands up in the air and snorts* Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 00:35, 7/1/2014 (UTC)

Moving section Magnagate Dungeons to Magnagate Dungeon article

Since it's extremely hard to include every single combination of words used to randomly generate a Magnagate Dungeon. It will always vary. All the Magnagate Dungeons on Bulbapedia should be moved to one Magnagate Dungeon article. Which is why I'm suggesting that the section called "Magnagate Dungeons" should be moved to a new article called Magnagate Dungeon.

Having an article named "Magnagate Dungeon" will allow for dungeon name groups that include the list of items and Pokémon within that group. I have been researching and analysing the game, looking at it's data and I have clear evidence that the internal code has a list of first names and second names for the dungeon. Like for instance, the Magnagate Dungeon called "Alluring Crevasse". "Alluring" is the first name, detailing what can be found there. And finally, "Crevasse" is the second name, which details the whole landscape and model of the dungeon. I hope everything I just said makes sense. But this is definitely something that needs to be considered.—Platinum Lucario (talk) 16:29, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
