Dropping

The article says that if the game is dropped, it'll freeze. But I dropped my DS countless times, and sometimes it doesn't freeze. Is there a certain elevation that makes it freeze when dropped from. It's for sure to be under 10 feet. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 00:56, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

If anything I think it's talking about Gameboy games because they stick out now since people use the GBA or DS for games...DS games are kinda stuck inside the DS and aren't really capable of coming out unless you press them...--Psyライダー 00:58, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
The same thing happened when I had a Gameboy. No matter what case, it won't freeze when dropped from an inch. The article also says that it happens no matter what Generation game it is. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 01:01, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Then change it, because it's not true for me either. CuboneKing 01:08, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Well it says "may also cause the game to freeze", so that means that it's only a possibility of freezing. ~ solaris 01:08, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
My dad threw my game boy colour once years ago and it didn't freeze. (If that helps) OwnageMuch 02:03, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
It probably all depends on if the cartridge comes loose at some point. It's probably not even the throwing moton that causes the freeze, it's probably a cartridge coming loose from its slot. Note that only cartridges tend to have this tendency; if you were to open the Gamecube cover or eject a disc from the Wii while the system was on, you'll be able to resume your game with no ill effects if you follow the onscreen instructions, provided you didn't do this while saving your game (and even then the ill effect would be savefile corruption, not a frozen game). --Shiningpikablu252 03:15, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it recently happened to me. My DSi fell off the couch and my HeartGold froze. The game wasn't at all loose from the slot. Should I add it back on? CuboneKing 03:35, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Probably not. Isolated incidents aren't too particularly notable. --Shiningpikablu252 03:51, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

(resetting indent)It's already there anyway, but there are plenty of times where any console is dropped the game freezes. It's probably some kind of self-protection method, like a BSoD. --SnorlaxMonster 04:01, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Whenever there's a dirty cartridge, it just stays white in my Generation III games, and it stays on the DS or DSi Menu saying "There is no cartridge in the game slot". It never freezes. I played a game and dropped it, the cartridge flew out! Also, dropping my DS on concrete made the green light disabled. Augustjune380 21:00, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I've seen dropped consoles freeze from dropping. However, I don't think that being dirty would do it. Like you said, the console just doesn't register it. Perhaps we should change it to "Mistreating the console can cause game freezes". --SnorlaxMonster 04:57, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
It depends on what type of junk got on it. I've seen older games freeze when the cartridge is dirty. It's not often, and hard to make happen, because most of the time it won't read it. But for a lot of games that use discs, such as Playstation, X Box, and computers, if a certain part of the disc is scratched or dirty, the game will freeze, kind of like a DVD. DVDs can skip that certain part though, but games can't.
On the topic of dropping, I have dropped my DS and frozen Pearl before. More than once, actually. And I might have done it with Mario Kart once... so it's not uncommon for it to freeze, but I think it has to hit near the hinged part, because that's where the game is read. R.A. I had my DS on the couch and took my dog for a very long walk. When I got back, I instantly jumped onto the couch and forgot the game was there. I jumped so hard the DS went flying across the room and landed upside-down on the floor. It caused some minor graphical glitches and the screen was cracked, but it didn't freeze. I seiously don't think droping it would cause a game freeze.Auragirl 20:06, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

It's not that if you drop it, it will freeze, but that it can. I once had my DS freeze while playing Platinum because I dropped it on carpet. --SnorlaxMonster 13:58, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Stub

Is this really still a stub? Granted, it could use a little bit more info and a few more specific examples of game freezes in main series games, especially older ones, but it's over a page long. Sunnie☀ 06:47, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Shock

I once had my LeafGreen game freeze after catching Zapdos; right after I caught it the game was accidentally hit by a static shock from my couch and froze. I didn't see a static/other electric shock mentioned as a possible cause for a freeze. Thought I'd put that out there in case anyone thought that should be on there.--Gioku 18:38, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

That seems unlikely (impossible actually) since the game cartridge is covered in plastic which is an insulator. Pikiwyn talk 20:10, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think it disrupted the game itself, but more like something in the GBA.--Gioku 20:21, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

My Silver Version keeps freezing every time I try to sneak past a trainer. I don't know why that happens or what's going on but now I lost my 2 Hoppips and the EXP Points my Pokemon has earned. (MichaelXD 17:21, 12 February 2012 (UTC))

Lumiose City save glitch

Does the Lumiose City save glitch count as a freeze or a soft lock? sumwun (talk) 20:44, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Definition of softlock

Players can sometimes become "trapped", but some of their buttons will still work. Examples include the battle against Lorelei's Dewgong in RBY and Route 226 in DPPt. Do those count as softlocks? If not, should someone create a new section to include them? sumwun (talk) 19:18, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

I know I posted this over 6 months ago, but I still care about answering those questions. sumwun (talk, contribs) 16:31, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
