Real Name?

It is suspected that Dorapion is a portmanteau of "Doragon" (Dragon) and "Scorpion", in which case it is likely that the official Romanization will be "Drapion". For those who are uncertain of what I mean, ドラピオン is the world "Dragon" written in Katakana, which reads back as "Doragon". I believe that this page should be moved to Drapion_(Pokémon), but I think it should be debated first.

We don't go by suspicions or theories. We only choose the romanization after we get the confirmation of what its trademarked romanization is - since that is the most official romanization. Until then, it stays as the most literal romanization, in this case Dorapion. (Also, am I the only one who doesn't really see what makes Dorapion very Dragon like? Granted, it wouldn't be the first case where a non-Dragon was called a Dragon - Ampharos - but still. Are there, like, no other Japanese workds which start with 'Dora'? I'ma go check my Japanese-English dictionary...) --Pie 18:27, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, here's one - you sure it has no relation to "dorai", which means "dry; unemotional"? I could easily see this thing being considered unemotional. --Pie 18:31, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

No, ドラゴン is the spelling of "doragon." -Argy 19:39, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
I think the dragon part should be mentioned if this is true. Its monstrous appearance makes it look like a dragon anyway. --Johans 16:36, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Hello, I'm new to this. Spotted some information while surfing Wikipedia: apparently the word "Apion" is scientifically associated with weevils (there is a weevil family Apionidae, genus name Apion and Exapion) - given Drapion's insect characteristics, I thought it might be worthy of inclusion as a possible name source.--Zohariel 14:14, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, mind if I ax the "Other Information" section? Pretty obvious Dorapion has nothing to do with Gligar at this point. --ANinyMouse 02:10, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Platinum sprite

Is Drapion's right fang supposed to be colored red? It is white in its Diamond/Pearl sprite, Diamond/Pearl shiny sprite, and official artwork, and it appears entirely white in both its back sprites. In both its Platinum regular and shiny sprites it is slightly red, but is this just an error in editing the image? Kevin Y (talk) 23:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Whoever uploaded the sprite is the one who messed it up... R.A. Hunter Blade 23:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Origin

I don't think that Drapion is based simply on "a stylized scorpion". I think he is more similar to the Thelyphonida (a.k.a. vinegarroons), look at this animal shape, it looks like a scorpion but it's actually a spider, and this explain Skorupi being a Bug-type (I know spider aren't bug, but in the Pokémon World they are considerated bug, Spinarak and Ariados are bug and I guess Denchura will be also Bug-Type), also this animal has to pinch in the front, just like Drapion (or better to say, that Drapion has two pinch, like this animal). So my opinion is that Skorupi & Drapion aren't simply "a stylized scorpion", but they are based on the vinegarroons so I think this should be added on the article! --Samy 08:43, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Have a look at this silverfish: [1] I don't know when this SEM image was taken, so it could be a chronologically impossible origin, though. --PLA 12:14, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
