"All Pokémon that can learn TMs in Generation I can learn Bide. " How about giving a list of Pokemon that can't learn TMs then? Eric the espeon 18:13, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Bide's Damage Pool

I've been using Bide a lot in Gen I Mt. Moon, and it really seems as if Bide's damage pool is reset when an opponent uses an absorption move like Leech Life. I consistently do almost no damage against Zubats that are eating my rather low-level Pokémon alive. Could someone who knows more about these things look into this? Sleep Cancels Bide

The article states that sleep and similar effects will pause but not disrupt the duration of Bide. However, in Platinum at least, a Biding Pokemon that is put to sleep will not resume using Bide when it awakens. Does anyone have more accurate information about this? Yenreb 00:05, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I just did some experimenting in Soulsilver and Sleep has the same effect on Bide as in Platinum. I will do more experimenting in my Pearl version and edit the page based on my findings. Alex726my talk page 01:41, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

It also has the same effect in Pearl. I finished my experimenting and will edit the page now. Alex726my talk page 11:03, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

I edited the page to include sleep's effects on Bide. Sorry for the delay but my computer kept telling me there was a "system error" or something like that and wouldn't let me save the changes. Alex726my talk page 20:36, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Does Bide still hit ghosts?

As of Gen V? TorchicBlaziken (talkedits) 02:32, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Generation I

I found out that Bide hits Ghost types in Generation I. This is because it doesn't calculate the damage with the normal formula. Thus, it doesn't use type effectiveness where the factor zero for Normal type attacks moves against Ghost types would come from. In Generation I, that actually goes for every move without given power, except Thunder Wave and the K.O.-moves, as far as I know. --Pummeluff 20:55, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Disable

Should it be mentioned that Disable will interrupt this move if it is used during Bide's idling turns? I've verified it in Gen V. Frayer (talk) 01:41, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Ghost type/Generation V

Okay, so I was having this battle on my White 2, in the Battle Subway. I commanded my Watchog to use Bide, and at the end of three turns, only Yamask was left on the foe's side. And contrary to this page, my game stated, "It doesn't affect the opposing Yamask...". I thought I should discuss about the possible error on this page rather than straightaway editing. Perhaps someone should check it on their Generation V game and confirm and edit the page. Harryghost (talk) 14:17, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

If that is indeed the case, could you confirm it, please. Is it possible that the message was from a Future Sight or Doom Desire that missed (if it was "at the end" of the third turn)? Or alternatively, could it be that your Watchog just received no damage during its Bide use (but Yamask was the Pokémon who hit it last, before that)!? Nescientist (talk) 16:52, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
I can totally guarantee you that it wasn't Future Sight or Doom Desire; none of those moves were ever used in my Multi-Train streak! So that possibility is ruled out. And even if they were used and missed, the message that is displayed is "But it failed!". Similar is the case with Bide; if the user does not receive any damage during the waiting turns, the message displayed during the third turn is "But it failed!". So, I believe this is a case of an inadvertent error that has crept into the page, but it is preferable if someone else tested this as well or checked it out from somewhere reliable, before editing the page. Thanks! Harryghost (talk) 20:02, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Ah, so you were sure already? I thought you weren't sure whether you remembered everything correctly, or whether you missed some other alternative. Sorry for being too sceptical, then!
In the future, if there's a case where you see an error and know how to fix it, I suggest you may fix it without going to a talk page. You can always include something meaningful in the edit summary (e.g., "Tested in B2"). In my opinion, that's more useful than being too careful. Please don't be too afraid! (Just... y'know, be careful with large-scale stuff.)
I confirmed that it cannot hit Ghost types in Generation V (BW), but that it can in Generation IV. I've edited the page accordingly. (It was unexpected, so thanks for catching it!) Nescientist (talk) 21:32, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Ghost type/Generation VII (cont)

Just tested in Ultra Moon, Haunter against the trainer Miltank at Hano Grand, and the attack didn't fail. So at some point after White 2 it was once again changed to hit Ghosts.Wrpen99 (talk) 11:36, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Okay. But what about Generation VI? We need to be sure when the change happened. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 11:49, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
If anyone feels like testing it, go ahead, but I personally don't have any Gen VI game. The information that it ignores type resistance in gen VII still needs to be on the page. Wrpen99 (talk) 03:27, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
I confirmed that Amoonguss fail Bide used for Dhelmise. I guess the Miltank was Scrappy and there is no such fact that Bide can hit to Ghosts in Gen.VII. --Zaggyo (talk) 13:54, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Bide can bypass Protect on Gen 7

Just letting you guys know, there's no info on this page neither on Protect's page. Testingboy (talk) 00:41, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Are you sure about this? If you are, then feel free to add it to the page(s), provided you have a source or tested it yourself. In case you tested, just make sure the test was in the right conditions (that protect wasn't lifted by Feint or another move, for example).
Also, try to keep the discussions in a single talk page. Suic (talk) 01:46, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Ponyta and Rapidash

It is stated on Ponyta and Rapidash's pages that they can learn Bide via TM34 but they aren't listed as being able to learn it on this page. HenryWong122 (talk) 18:45, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Because it says "Every Pokémon can learn this move by TM except the ones listed below and only if marked with ✘." Ponyta is not listed there, and this means it can learn the move. --Bfdifan2006 18:46, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
